here's the deal.
I have 10qts of GC(0w30) in my stash, that I'll probably never use, unless i start putting it in dad's Kohler powered Cub Cadet -takes 1.9qts 10w30 every 50/100 hrs (engine manual says one, Mower manual says the other, forget which is which)-

our Neighbor has an old VW type 2 van, his son drives in the summer (has a Frankenstein'd Gen 1 Neon for the winters), and looking into their Garage, it Looks like they are building a beetle (a real one, not a golf in cosplay)he also has a sweet looking Nomad.

I did search back through the site, most of the recommendations were either:
-SAE 30
-5w40
-15w40
should i bother my Neighbor with this oil? or let it continue to gather dust.

I don't want any money for it, I'm the Idiot who bought 10qts of oil no car in the family is spec'd for, I just want it gone.

the folks I know who change their own oil have the Following, none of which (I believe) would be good fits..(if only my cousin hadn't wrecked his BMW and replaced it with a Nissan P/U!)

Brother - Dallas TX
98 Mustang GT (4.6l)
06 Mustang GT (4.6l)(Ford Racing intake and Tune)*
07 Dakota quad cab (4.7l HO)
13 Challenger Blacktop (Hemi)

everyone else in OH

Me(& Parents)
2009 Mercury Sable (3.5l)
2009 Ford Taurus (3.5l)
2012 Ford Explorer (3.5l)

Sister & Brother in Law
199? Dodge Dakota (?.? v6)
2005 Ford Freestyle(3.0l Duratec)
2009 Dodge Grand Caravan (3.8l?)

that's Pretty much it...

*Pretty sure it's for sale...even though he has a bunch of discontinued parts for it...

Hes likly to buy old school sae30 why? Because those single weight get tested at 150 multigrade dont!aircooling at 110 f !hahaha!nha they ll need the sae 30 synthetic.(sorry)

The 3.9L and 4.7L Dodge Dakota probably called for 10w30 conventional, or maybe 5w30 conventional, and GC would be a perfect replacement. I am not sure about the 1998 Mustang, it may have called for 5w20 or 5w30 back then. If that is the case, GC will work perfectly there, too.

"Golf in cosplay" That really made me laugh.

yeah, the "old" Dak called for 10w30 back in the day

98 'Stang he uses 5w30, starting to build it up as a "fun car"(only manual in the lot)
the rest pretty much call for 5w20

I would personally use that oil in many of those mentioned vehicles. I bet it would do just fine. Wish I was near you. I would drop in and keep it from collecting more dust in your stash.

Vibe, 98 Mustang, 90s Dakota, 09 Caravan, the vw next door all would be fine and are (or were) specified for xxw30.

You can send it to me and I will put it to good use ;-)

"-SAE 30
-5w40
-15w40" for the air-cooled VW.

Knowing this... GC is probably one of the few, or only, xW-30 I'd use in it. It's hard to shear and on the high side of the 30 weight scale, viscosity-wise. Nice zinc/phosphorous levels for a flat tappet cam. I don't know ANYTHING about those engines, so I don't even know what cam design they are.

Overall, I think it'd be ... ok ... it just depends on what oil temps that engine hits on average. If when fully warmed up, it doesn't go under 240F, and goes higher than that easily, I would debate the 0W-30. BUT, this is [censored] near full uneducated opinion. After you read this, your brain may self-destruct in 5..4..3..2..

GC in an old VW might not be a great choice and would be a waste of the oil.
Sell or trade it here.
