well i guess it is just the huge profits from the exonmobil corp that puts the small flame under my @ss.
I have a friend that is an engineer at mobil. he thinks they set the price of crude oil every day at exxonmobil.

Okay, so, GC Gold 0w-30, PP Euro5w-40, or Mobil 1 0w-40? What would some of you use. I currently have GC Green....and PP Euro 5w-40.....

NYC,

For your '96 Maxima, I would recommend GC. I personally have used GC and Mobil 1 5w30 in my '97 Maxima, and the difference is very noticeable. My engine (the VQ30DE, same as in yours) was very loud with the Mobil 1. With the GC, it was very quiet, and the idle was so smooth I almost cranked the car while it was already running on several ocassions. The only thing that stopped me was seeing the tach at 650 rpm. My wife even commented on the smoothness, wondering what I had done to the car ("Did you get new gas or put something in it?"). She didn't know I had simply changed the oil. My gas mileage spreadsheet that is calculated to the nearest hundredth showed no noticeable difference in mileage between the two that wasn't within a margin of error attributable to other factors.
The VQ's also tend to like thicker 30 weights. Read around here and you'll find several members who have observed the same thing. GC is almost a thin 40 weight. I believe Mobil 1 has thickened their recent formula, but I'm not sure. The Mobil 1 I used was a very thin 30 weight. I also had 2 UOA's done on two consecutive runs with Mobil 1. Both had elevated lead and iron. After my AutoRX run, I will be getting newer UOA's with GC. But this may take awhile as I don't rack up many miles.

Anyways, that's my take. I now have 14 qts of the German elixir. Can't wait to put it back in.

Dave

As I've mentioned in other posts, I switched from Mobil 7500 to GC in my '99 Accord 2.3 litre and it runs a lot more smoothly and quietly. And, according to my calculations, my gas mileage has improved. Cool. I will run no other oil than GC.

Welcome to the ranks of those who use nothing but the Elixer. You have made a profoundly wise choice.

I just changed from Mobil 1 5w30 to GC at the suggestion of my fellow BITOG'ers here in my 2004 Saturn Ion with the 2.2 Ecotec engine. My results are similar to Dave H - car idles much quieter and runs quieter also. Gas mileage has not declined. My next move is to change to GC in my other vehicle, 2002 GMC Safari Van with 75K miles.

Same here 2005matto. I have the 2.2L Ecotec as well. Went from Mobil 1 to GC and car runs much quieter at 2,500 RPM than before and startup/idle is significantly quieter.

I have a scanguage and religiously document my MPG and trips in a mead notepad. No MPG loss at all. You can see in the UOA section my excellent UOAs with GC. (Just doing a comparison with Amsoil vs GC now).
