Received from Rock Auto today:
GATES K070701
made in China

This was sent as a warranty replacement, because the one I received (from RA) and installed about 4 months ago developed a crack width wise on the backside of the belt. I wonder if the one from 4 months ago is from China also. I guess this is my last Gates belt.
Vehicle installed on is an `07 Honda Accord SE 2.4L

Play it safe and buy Bando belts. OEM on Toyotas, Hondas, and possibly other brands.

So are Dayco belts now also made in China?
Don’t think so. Believe that’s what I went with on my s-10 when I couldn’t get a US made Gates.

Recently when driving my 96 Ram from SD to NJ, the belt started to be a bit noisy. I stopped for a break in MN, and there was an AAP right there so I went to ask about belts to possibly get a spare. They had a US made belt, and for some reason I thought it was a Dayco. Maybe that’s what the clerk told me?

I still have it.

What is the price difference between the OE belt and the Gates?

Would you run the Chinese Gates belt or send it back and get OEM?

I would normally run it, but the 4 month old one cracked on the back side across the width. This crack in the 4 month old belt leaves a bad feeling about quality. Not a hard belt to change, just annoying!

Gates and Dayco have more than one factory each so they both could be making belts in China and the US or Mexico. Japanese companies have been much slower to off shore to China so it's not surprising the Bando belts are still made in Japan.

I have a Gates belt coming tomorrow from work hopefully it’s not made in China. Unfortunately no OEM belts were available anymore. I did make sure to get an OEM tensioner though which came today. If that old one is cracking I’d seek something different.

You can go to the Bando website and they will give you the part number you need for your car. You can then take that part number and purchase on Amazon, will ship with prime and should be around $13. Bando makes the Honda/Acura belts. My oem belt last 100,000 miles and still looks new.

I replaced the OEM belts on my Mazda3 a couple years ago with Continental Poly-V belts AKA Goodyear Gatorback belts. They have been holding up fine. They are made in Mexico.

So I ended up with two belts because they ordered the wrong one first. First one made in USA v-belt. Second made in Mexico serpentine belt. Kept both cause the other belt appears original so I might replace it.
