Historically, gasoline prices have followed crude prices right on up the ladder, but this time, not. Here in Northern Virginia, cheapie stations are @ $2.50/gallon, brand pumps selling a dime or so higher than that, this with crude prices over 70.00/barrel for months, and for the last several weeks nearly 80.00/barrel, and today, 82.50 at the close. Yet, gas keeps dropping in price around here. You guys getting that?
I know, I know, the market, the refineries, etc., etc. But the gas prices have been running well below ratio vs. crude prices compared to anytime I can remember. After Katrina, crude oil was in the low 70s and gasoline rose in lockstep to nearly four dollars a gallon, but since, it has even been 3.25 at crude prices of only 65.00.
Ya suppose the big refiners have made a political decision to take a little less profit, to gouge a little less with the partisan sea-change in Congress, or even maybe to lose a little? Something's up, but it hasn't bubbled up to the surface in media yet. Waddup?
