For the first time that I can remember. I am unable to find any grade of gas for less than $3 a gallon. Even at the discount stations. Truly a bummer.

What nobody ever mentions is the income differential between CA, NY and the rest of the country. Rent, gas, groceries, etc are all sky high in NY, but the job I do in Dallas easily pays 2x-3x more in NYC. It's all relative.

Upstate NY the wages are very very low, but hte cost of property is very low.

Gas prices are high, and taxes are insane.

But things like groceries are very cheap.

I live in buffalo.

property is usually low in a city...
but try buying a nice house in the outskirts so you don't have to drive more than 30-45 minutes....
$160-250k....

I can't help but think, with China, India, etc. putting more and more pressure on petroleum supplies, we'll all one day look back and say, "Remember when gas was ONLY $3 a gallon?!"

I paid 2.53 a gallon when I fill up late last week, that was 87 from a BP station.

Really stinks that about 2 weeks prior we were paying 2.19 for the same gas at that station.

Winston,

I know just how you feel. down here in Los Angeles the average price is now 3.20/gallon no matter what brand you like. The best advice for everyone is to keep your cars in tune and put a couple more pounds of air in your tires to max out the MPG. Of course go to a lighter weight oil if you can.

Durango

Still under $2.50 in Oklahoma City.

I drive an econobox, so I really don't give a #@$%!. Bring on $5 gas, I'd like to see light rail and other public transit start to make some headway.

Nice! Restrict the right of personal movement so government has control of where you can go...

Gas is ~$2.70 here. A large chunk of that is taxes. I think they are blaming this price hike on lack of refining capacity.

According to this Site, the gas tax is very high in Cali (44.7) and NY (43.9). I suggest you (and everyone else) write to your legislatures.

And these numbers are just the State tax, not including the Feds...
