Walked the isle today at my local supermarket, Looking for Garlic Powder.

With one exception they were all Labeled as "Made In China".

This is not me hating on the Chinese, I'm just a tad uncomfortable with their food processing.

Spice Islands claims "Product of USA".

So I bought that, At 3X the price of other brands.

(BTW, It smells and tastes really good too)

I think they are different types of garlic than the Western garlic. The East Asian garlic tends to be milder and has a, should I say more green onion like, aroma than the Western garlic used in most Western cooking.

The Chinese garlic is selling for about 5 for $1 here (about 2/3 to 1/2 as big), and Western one about $1 each.

The phrase "made in China" has become synonymous with contaminated stuff.

A lot of fresh garlic is also grown there. It is highly irradiated and dead. Yuck.

Fortunately TomNJ taught me the finer points, so I now grow my own.

I love the use of a lot of garlic in Asian cooking - love it. Just don't want it from china.

We grow our own garlic too, I buy powder for making rubs and also for my Chili.

For anything else I use fresh.

We buy it by the bunch, I especially like the giant purple variety.

While fresh is the best there is no escaping the utility of the powder...

Maybe that's a good thing?

China destroyed a shipment of corn from the US because they were GMO.

I Read labels of everything I buy, Crazy old man I am.

Honestly I have not bought anything from Del Monte in years, Thanks for the heads up!

There is a USA grown garlic shortage, Gilroy can't keep up with demand.

Read up on where a lot of apple juice comes from.
