I've come across this new oil sold at Wal-Mart and wonder if anyone has used it? I would like BITOG to test it before I use it.

"Test it?"

In what way?

A Virgin Oil Analysis (VOA) or do you expect a BITOGer to run the oil in their vehicle and have a Used Oil Analysis (UOA) performed for your review?

Welcome to BITOG!

stubbakatt is right. If you use the site's Google Site Search box and search for G-OIL you'll get a bunch of results. To the best of my knowledge there's one VOA, but it's of the Racing formula. There aren't yet any UOAs but chubbs1 and some others are running it and I'm anxious to see the results.

My UOA will be posted probably sometime this summer (whenever the OLM goes off in the Buick + another 1000 miles).

Next on the oil roulette roundup, going to try some Resolute 5w30 in the Buick ($1.74/qt reg price $1.34 right now on sale at Fleet Farm).

The Taurus is going to Valvoline Next Gen HM 5w30 as soon as walmart gets some back in stock in the 5qt jugs (rebate ahoy!).

Then later this summer the 06 VW 2.slow will see some Rotella T5 10w30 (oh no! its not VW502, A3, or even a full synthetic).

Yeah, I know. Gambling man. I'll let all of you know when my engines detonate and then eject themselves from my vehicles in disgust over the oils I'm running in them.

Doesn't the company say G-oil is the equivalent of a Group 5 synthetic? If that's accurate $26 is a bargain and $13 is an absolute steal.

With a new product I am dubious to use it without somewhat of a scientific test for wear, durability, etc. I have only used regular and synthetic oils for 50 years with great success never having an engine failure of any machines I've ever owned and don't want the first one with this new product. Bob has the means to test this product.

BITOG is its members, of which you're now one of. Exercise your "means" like the rest of a us, buy some, do a VOA, and post for all to see. Or if you choose to use it, do a UOA at the end of your OCI and post for all to see. That's what makes BITOG, BITOG.

No, they don't, AFAIK. Their advertising focuses on reducing dependence on foreign oil and biodegradability rather than performance.

It still might be a very good performer, but we'll have to wait for the UOAs.

Bob who? And why should this Bob shell out his own money to give YOU peace of mind?

Anyone see the new G-Oil SAE 30 48oz bottle in the lawn mower section. IIRC $7.88 for 48 oz which is quite good considering the lawn mower brand oil was about $2 for conventional oil in the same size.

So, let me summarize. Basically you'd like someone else to take the risk of running this new oil in their vehicle and then have them spend their money to do lab testing and finally have them report the results back to you. That about it?

LOL, I was wondering who the heck this "bob" is myself. He must be special too because he has the "means" to test this G-Oil.

Quote:
Group V base oils are so diverse that there is no catch-all description.

Based on the fact that Group V is a catch all catagory and Esters from plants and Animals are Group V oil AND G-Oil is a Beef Tallow derived oil gets you Group V oil.

Of course, now some may not think so highly of Group V oils.

A UOA will come eventually, but it might take me six months to get enough miles for a useful report. I may just pull a sample at 3,000 miles and have it tested. If the report comes back that my motor oil is turning to Crisco, I'll stop using it.

It's API approved oil, so I'm pretty sure the stuff's not junk. The only question I have is about the price. If it's just as good as a good conventional, then paying an extra $13 dollars per jug just to get the "warm and fuzzies" just ain't happening. If it turns out that it's a pretty good synthetic (and by pretty good I mean, better than the sub-$20 syns), it might be worth it.

I've got 1,000 miles on it so far. It looks just like it did when I poured it in. So far, so good.
