COMMENTS: Flagged data does not indicate an immediate need

for maintenance action. Continue to observe the trend and

monitor equipment and fluid conditions. Copper is at a

MODERATE LEVEL; COPPER is most likely LEACHING into the oil

via the OIL COOLER core tubing. This typically DOES NOT

REQUIRE MAINTENANCE ACTION unless there is evidence of

COOLANT in the oil; Viscosity is MODERATELY LOW; Abrasives

(silicon/dirt) are at a MINOR LEVEL; Your note was taken into

consideration; Lubricant and filter change acknowledged;

That wear is fine and will trend down. Thinner than I would have thought, but the G oil is doing well. I'd definitely feel comfortable running it (or any other oil) longer.

Engine is breaking in and shearing oil as is typical. Why a synthetic ester oil during break in - this is a no-no! Well at least it wasn't during INITIAL break in. What's going in next?

I put in more G-Oil. Should I be using something else with this low mileage? I didn't know that this type of oil was a no-no and will change it if I need too.

Looking at the viscosity numbers in UOAs (at 100C) and VOAs (at 40C), I am almost convinced that G-Oil 5W30 API SM oil is probably fine for 5W20 application (regardless, I already running in 2005 Ford Duratec V6).

No need to change the oil because it is an ester. That is what Nissan uses as a FF anyway I thought??

There is no need to break in new cars/trucks like the old days where a conventional high ZDDP oil was necessary. Everything should be fine with the G-Oil so don't go worrying and dump perfectly good oil.

Hey wait a minute. Check your owners manual to see if you can use a sm oil. My 2011 only needs a sm but yours might be different. Im gonna check. Give me a minute.

It says a sm or better in a 5w30. The manual also recommends nissan ester oil and says that the factory fill is good for a normal interval. Your oci will most likely be 3750 miles for the severe not the 7500 miles which in a perfect world might work but nissan will rake you over the coals if you mess up the schedule 2.

Nissan also wants the tires rotated every 7500 and even brake fluid done every 15,000 or 1 year. You might want to make sure you play it by the book so you dont mess up your warranty.

TBN of 3.57 after only 2,165 miles? If that is correct, I would test it again at 5K to be sure it was not exhausted.

There was a VOA of G-Oil posted that showed the starting TBN to be 7.9 (not sure if these are the same labs, but still):

Google shows there already have been several 5,000-ish mile UOAs of G-Oil 5W30 showing TBN in the range from 1.6 to 3.5. This is probably highly engine and usage dependent. Based on the UOAs I have seen so far, I'd say this oil should be safe for 5,000-6,000 miles OCI under normal condition (e.g. not towing a trailer) without taking UOA. I'd give this UOA a little break though. The engine has 3,000 miles. The funny thing is that all this API SM information will probably become irrelevant once the SN formulated G-Oil hits the shelves (except for those who stashed pools of it with mail-in rebates that are still going on). I do hope they improve the formula. I'd expect better at the current price point, which is $1 less than Mobil 1 in the same store.

Good to know; it just seemed fairly low on the OP's UOA at ~2,100 miles.

In that instance, it would make my choice an easy one--M1 all the way!

Let's review those options again. Spend $27 for M1 or $26 for G-Oil and eventually get your money back via a rebate. http://getg.com/campaigns/request.php?cID=cad120710

Also, don't forget the feel good aspect of using the G-Oil. I mean, come on, cows taste good. Doesn't your engine deserve an opportunity to enjoy a taste of beefy goodness?

Jim, you make a strong and intelligent argument.

The FAR will not continue "forever" with G-Oil, else they will not be in business and this rebate expires in a few days so it cannot be counted on to always be available for every OC. In a heads up contest--price or otherwise, from what I see (feel free to correct me if I am wrong) G-Oil is no match for M1; this is particularly true if the oil the OP used was synthetic. I see that G-Oil has both, but unless I missed it I did not see which was in use in this UOA. To lose nearly 50% of TBN in 2100 miles is not acceptable in an oil that is only $1 less than M1 (without any rebates)--is it? In the same application, would M1 lose half of its TBN in 2100 miles? M1 can be ran for 10K OCIs, could G-Oil? Remove the rebate (that may or may not be available) from the equation and which is the better deal?

The typical pattern we see is that within a few days of one rebate campaign ending another one begins.

Then I suppose that it is a good thing that it is "subsidized" via rebate because it is not worth the actual price as compared to M1 in an even comparison.

I think it's fair to say that most of us using G-Oil would agree with you, but at the same time we're happy to take the subsidy.
