G-Body as part of the halftime show of Super Bowl LIX.

1987? That was the last year I watched a super bowl. Nowadays, I cringe at the thought of seeing one. Speaking of G-body's, I bought a new Monte Carlo Super Sport in '87. It developed an engine problem and I traded it on a mid-'80s Eldo, with an even worse engine (4100)!

Ugh, that’s depressing.

Right up there with all those Chargers destroyed by the Dukes of Hazzard. Loved the show as a kid. As an adult, it breaks my heart that they killed over 80 chargers for that show.
I see it just the opposite. That was a very bad time economically and when the show had to buy all those Chargers it had to boost the Chrysler Corps. bottom line somewhat. It also put the brand on nightly TV, and we are still talking about it today. The Blues Brothers movie destroyed a bunch of Chrylser Cop Cars too. More $ales for Chrysler at the time!

It was a real car. Kendrick Lamar's most recent album was titled GNX. His dad drove him home from the hospital in a Regal. He later got a GNX. He has a connection to the GNX.

Sadly, the car used on stage didn't survive. It was an actual GNX that was sourced for the show, according to Road & Track.

Reading the linked article, it was not a GNX, but a Grand National made up to look like a GNX. Click bait title was misleading, or they updated the article after you posted it.

You know, even though it was still a GN, I am glad it wasn’t an actual GNX.

The thought of destroying one for entertainment saddened me.

A GN is still a special car, and rare, but not as special or rare as the GNX.

you realize those chargers were "just" 10(ish) yr old used cars at the time right? they didn't buy them from Chrysler... and the cop cars, etc in movies, if they're current models are usually provided to the production by the manufacturer.. the studios don't go out and by them.

So many people hack up GNs these days I used to get upset over it. It would trigger my autism or something. Make me loose sleep. Like hey lets take the part that makes it a GN and throw it out.

Now days...whatever I cannot afford them anyways to care 😆 I got to grow up with one. Thats good enough for me.
