I'd say the author of that webpage has an agenda. Note the links at the bottom of the page to "Neways Products" (MLM nonsense, no doubt) and references to "God's Law on Clean and Unclean Foods" etc.

I completely agree. Based on what I saw, they look like they're trying to scare the bejeesus out of people, then get them to buy their "healthier" products. It makes me wonder how solid the science behind their claims really is and how much better these Neways really are (no offense, Molakule).

Molakule, I really enjoyed the link! If it is not clear the way we live in America is not the best way to live! It is the most convient and comfortable in the short term but not so good in the long term! While some of chemistrys modern achivements are great and help us a lot most of it is killing us. Very litle of what goes into any consumeable product has anything to do with what is best for the consumer or the product itself! It is usaly about profit margin and shelf life.

The consumables in America are what is killing. Mix these products with lack of exercise and modern medicine and you get an old population that is functuional crippled and in poor shape! While we may live longer then some of the people in developing nations and remote primative societys we fo not live well. When you look at some of these primative cultures their older people are hunting, fishing and haveing offspring right up until they die or jest a few year from death. In the USA most senior citizens are lucky if they can afford their 40 prescriptions a day and can hardly move, get out of bed, drive to the store etc..... You would be hard pressed to find 60-80 year olds inthr USA that could hunt or fish let alone father a child with a young bride.

Not only are they trying to scare people, but a lot of these are downright incorrect or misleading! They leave a lot of facts out.

Coal tar is not an FC&C coloring; it is (was) the active ingredient in dandruff shampoos. You are not likely to find it in normal shampoo.

I like the one on Propylene Glycol:

quote:

PROPYLENE GLYCOL - Called a humectant in cosmetics, it is used in "INDUSTRIAL ANTIFREEZE" and a major ingredient in brake and hydralic fluid. Tests show it can be a strong skin irritant. Material safety data sheets(MSDS) on propylene glycol warn to avoid skin contact as it is systemic and could cause LIVER ABNORMALITIES and KIDNEY DAMAGE. You will find this ingredient in your hand and body lotions along with facial moisturizers.

talk about misleading -- associating this relatively non-toxic subtance with highly-toxib brake fluid

The actual MSDS http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/englishhtml/p6928.htm

states:

quote:

Inhalation:
No adverse health effects via inhalation.
Ingestion:
Relatively non-toxic. Ingestion of sizable amount (over 100ml) may cause some gastrointestinal upset and temporary central nervous system depression. Effects appear more severe in individuals with kidney problems.
Skin Contact:
Mild irritant and defatting agent, especially on prolonged contact.
Eye Contact:
May cause transitory stinging and tearing.
Chronic Exposure:
Lactic acidosis, stupor and seizures have been reported following chronic ingestion.
Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions:
Kidney disorders.

Causes liver and kidney damage????

I think the rest of the list is just as incorrect.

They left hydrogen hydroxide, HOH, off the list. Beyond doubt, it has killed more people than any other single chemical. It kills many way. The best know is when the lungs fill with it preventing them from absorbing oxygen. It can rob the body of warmth. Clothing fails to protect the body form cold air if it is soaked in it. In its solid form, it destroys traction leading to many traffic accidents in cold weather. Heated to its vapor form, it burns the lungs. Yet people bathe babies in it.

If you don't believe this, go jump in the lake.

"MOST TOOTHPASTE TUBES ARE MADE FROM ALUMINUM."

How long has it been since that was true? I can't even remember the last metal toothpaste tube I saw.

"Fluorocarbons are commonly used as a propellant in hairsprays."

Not since the late 1970s they haven't.

Also known as dihydrogen monoxide, it's a colorless, odorless liquid; a powerful coolant and solvent; an easily synthesized compound which is used by industry, the military, commercial operations.

To funny.

Did you see the Penn & Teller episode on Showtime where they passed around a petition to ban Di-hydrogen Monoxide at one of those environmental wacko commie demonstrations?

I was going to pass the dihydrogen monoxide up to our safety people.

A fairly senior manager strongly advised against it on the basis that they would almost certainly ban it from site.

I've always wondered what will kill you more quickly. All of those common chemicals or the stress from living in fear of everything your whole life. My money is on the latter...

I just finished pouring a whole bunch of dihydrogen monoxide into my radiator followed by some propolene glycol. When I was done there was about a gallon of dihydrogen monoxide left, I drank it all, it was one heck of a hot day. I'm glad those environmental wacko's at their commie demonstrations haven't banned it!!

Dihydrogen monoxide, it's just a habit. Just don't try to inhale it, then it is hazardous.

Right on! I think that I just might do a couple of shooters.

Where I live we are not allowed to let dihydrogen monoxide run down the street because it might end up in the lake. We are also restricted as to when we may apply it to our lawns, odd or even days depending on our addresses.

Yeah, that dihydrogen monoxide is really scary stuff!

I dread to even think of the long-term environmental consequences of so many massive spillages of this chemical, also known as Refrigerant 718 (R-718)...

I've read that if a current is passed through dihydrogen monoxide its chemical bonds are broken into explosive gasses, if burned it will make more dihydrogen monoxide.
Scary stuff.

Honestly..so many things in this country are put out by the written and visual media, along with folks who write books for impact. Many of which are....duuuhhh.... aimed at generating revenue.

Science and the "Scientific Method" are going by the wayside in this country and really around the world.

Thanks to BITOG for bringing a hint of truth to us here.
