Whats everyones take on which direction Cerberus is goig to go with the company? I sorta had hope that they were going to make it better, but most anylists now think they are going to strip it and flip it now that they put Robert Nardelli in charge, since thats what he does best. I wonder if the warranty is just a short term revenue maker and to make the sales margin look higher to potentional buyers.Iam thinking Jeep will be easy to sell off. Iam thinking this sucks since I bought a new 2006 Dodge and a lifetime warranty. Whats happens to the warranty if they sell the company. Dodge is pretty tight with the warranty details, I bought the warranty 2 month ago and still havent seen a contract, because they say they dont know how they are going to word it(Really this is what the Dodge hotline operator told me). Car and Driver and other auto magazines seem to think Dodge wont last more than 5 years and will fold right after they launch the new V6 engine design with Diamler. Anything is possible at this point, I guess.

Anybody know the legality of going out of business and warranty coverage?

I think there will always be a buyer for Chrysler if the price is right, so they probably are not going out of business.

Not sure of the legalities, but it they go under, so does your coverage. If dealer service departments no longer exist, nor does your warranty. This is basically what has become of Isuzu North America. I had a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo. All 2000-2002 Isuzus (Rodeo, Rodeo Sport, Axiom, Trooper and Vehicross) had a 10yr/120Kmi power-train warranty. The problem is, there are basically no more Isuzu dealerships around anymore since the last 'real' Isuzu product rolled off the line in 2004. You can find dealerships, but they are VERY far and few between.

Panzer, I'm not sure what contract you purchased with your 2006, but the 2007 "lifetime warranty" details are spelled out pretty clearly right online: http://www.chryslerllc.com/aboutus/warranty/

Chrysler has a lot of strong products right now. I think breaking the company up would be a poor move. A lot of customers, workers, and who knows else would be left out in the cold...people out of jobs, many thousands (millions actually) with junk warranties, and who knows what else. With the 300, Charger, Ram, Avenger, Magnum, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler all doing reasonably well, I don't know why Chrysler could not be restructured a little and turned into a profitable company to own whole. They still have the third best selling full size truck, lots of new police/rental contracts coming their way, cars that are "cool" to own, etc... It seems wasteful and premature to call Chrysler done and break it down/kill off brands.

The warranty was made avaiable to 2006 owners who were perturbed they bought before such a warranty was offered, so Dodge made the warranty avaible to 2006 owners, with less than 36,000 miles, for $900.00, with 0 deductable. The deadline was Sept.30,2007. I bought it, because I got a 2006 Dodge 2500 4x4 that I plan on keeping as long as the last one, 12 years. You cant go wrong, if it indeed stays effective. That warranty page is just warranty sale/question page, its not the contract, I was suppose to recieve, but havent, because they dont know how to word it. I bought the warranty on thier interest free deal, of only $26.00 a month, so Iam only out $52.00, not the whole $900.00 yet. It wouldnt take much on a 4x4 to tally $900.00 and no deductable.

Until you have the contract you haven't purchased anything. And you won't know what you have actually purchased until you get the contract and read it.

Chrysler is flirting with some serious legal problems here. Someone didn't vet this with the legal department, obviously.

From Dee-Ann Durbin, Associated Press:

"Many industry analysts believe Cerberus will fix the money-losing Chrysler quickly, return it to profitability and sell it for a huge profit, perhaps to a foreign auto company that wants a stronger U.S. presence."

Dodge diesels are popular around here. They could possibly go it alone, although partnering with a larger truck maker would be better.

Chrysler is in a financial bind and a strike happens. wonder if it will put chrysler out of business. then there wouldn't be anything to strike about.

This is probably the beginning of the end for Chrysler being a union shop. They could probably do it now if they had the cajones. The dealers have a 5 to 6 weeks supply of cars before they are hurting for selection. Do you think they can hire and train a non-union work force in 6 weeks?

Or is the union unbreakable?
