Funny 5w-30 story

So, a coworker and I were casually chatting, and he says that he has a bunch of 5w-30 oil he can't use. I told him I had some 0w/5w-20 i wasn't using and he offered to swap. I had mine with me, left it for him, and he tells me he will bring them the next day (today).

This is what he brought

I had to look up SG...looks like this is 30+ years old lol. He said it was in his dad's barn! I now have 6 of them...

We had a good laugh over it.

I remember always buying a case of that when it would go on sale for $.99/qt at Fleet Farm in central WI. I used it in my 87 Mercury Topaz.

Thats all my Father would use in his Imperial /new Yorker I remember some of the cans i think were all metal then card board with metal tops he swore by Valvoline in the 60s and 70s i think it was rated 10w20w40 then changed to 10w30 and 10w40.
I used a lot of that exact oil you have there in a 88 dodge.

Seriously, the love the 'Valvoline Boys' had for their oil was equal to or greater than many guys' marque loyalty.

An auto-mentor-of-sorts I had was a Mopar and Valvoline freak.

I don’t think I’d even put 30 yrs old barn kept oil in a mower. I’d just use it as garage decoration cause it looks cool. Man, some people are pretty hard up to not let old oil go unused.

The word obsessed is frequently used here....not that I know anything about that kinda thing personally....coming from a guy who can't move in his house because of an extensive PEZ dispenser collection.

You can actually make some money on PEZ dispenser though. Those are very collectible and it isn’t like they will “go bad.”

Valvoline has never really gotten the love up here in Canada, it doesn’t seem to get a lot of shelf space in the stores or do much advertising either. Castrol probably has had the most advertising up here in the last few decades.

Yeah, of course. Good guy. Didn't really occur to him that it is largely unusable and 30+ years old. All good, I'm getting a bunch of farm fresh eggs coming my way!
