Fumoto valve - tightening

I was reading some reviews on Amazon and there were some comments on leaks from over tightening. Do people use the supplied washer? My current drain plug has a thick nylon washer. Buy an oil-tite washer (metal outside, rubber inside)? Crush washer?

F-101 for my Jeep.

You can use either. Never had a leak and I've used them for over 300k miles of driving. I would use the blue washer it came with.

If it leaks, change it next OCI until you get one that doesn't leak. All of those washers have their finicky points.

I have a metal washer with a rubber inset, started leaking. Nylon usually lasted forever for me, some say its trash. *shrugs*

I used the blue washer it came with. Could use factory washer as well.

I installed it with the supplied gasket, which began leaking soon after. I tightened it back down and haven't had a problem since.

i have never heard of the valve leaking- it is a ball valve- how would it leak? I have mine on for like 220K miles and no leaks, i even ran over a dead deer.

Kira, the FV web site claims that their gadget is so good that it actually received OEM part status from a number of Japanese manufacturers, including Mazda. I used a Fram Sure-Drain on my 89 Accord for years, with a nylon washer, and it didn't leak. I put a FV on the Mazda at the first oil change, 2,500 miles ago. Since the plastic splash shield on this car has a removable hatch to access the oil drain and filter I guess I won't know if it's leaked until my next OC. The blue washer it comes with is fiber so, much like a nylon washer, you can't muscle it down as hard as you would with a metal washer. I think that's a good thing. I only use plastic washers. I've had plenty of aluminum and copper washers ooze or drip, but the plastic washers work for me every time, on multiple cars, for the past thirty years.

I've been using Fumoto valves for over 15 years on many different vehicles and never had any leak.
Always used the blue washer that came with the valve.

I'm almost 100K on mine and no leaks. I installed it so the lever action goes forward and to the right. That way if im driving and something hits the lever it can't rotate open. I also have a skid plate to protect it.

Used the supplied washer on my WRX. No leaks in the 60k miles it was on there, but I was very careful to not over-tighten it.

Was it dead before or after you ran it over?

Don't believe everything people tell you. The fumoto valve works pretty well. I've installed 3 of them on cars so far with no issues. I used the provided gasket each time.

My licensed factory upfitter has been using them on our equipment since the 80's. I bought my first truck from them in the early 90's. 3 Fumoto's on every one.

I may have issues with the flow but they NEVER leak. Even after a ton of years and hours, never a leak.

The website mentions adding a hose clamp to make it impossible to open the valve unintentionally. Has anyone considered that? One person here mentioned running over a deer.

I've never used one but you're right.

Used at least 5 over the years on different vehicles, oldest is over 15 years old and still works fine. Use the washer that came with it. Even had one hit a concrete median and shaved off part of the nipple, still worked fine and did not break.

They are really very tough and never had one open by itself or by running over something.

the deer was dead so i did not damage the bumper or front end but i felt it hit the bottom of the van and when i got home there was a lot of hair all over the place. The valve had some hair stuck to it too.

I was driving down the interstate at like in the evening and i did not see it as i was behind a semi. Went over it at around 65 mph.
