Full or empty oil filter after change

Wow...this topic went crazy

The car is a 2002.5 Mazda Protege5. It has a little oil filter on it, and it is almost horizontally mounted. I am not especially worried, since that is the last PureONE I will be using for some time (I have a few Mobil 1 and Amsoils waiting). I was just wondering since every other oil change I did there was some oil in the filter when removed - nothing came out of this one.

Right now it is running SuperTech Blend 10w30 w/ a SuperTech filter and some AutoRx...all seems good.

cryptokid, even if the filter was pluged up beyound belief the bypass should function and allow unfiltered oil to flow freely. Second the ADV operates just like sticking a straw into a glass of pop and covering one end with your finger. The stray stays full so long as you finger stays on top. If you did not have and ADV valve the oil in the uper passages that had not yet reached the valve train would flow back through the filter after shutdown and pack into the pan. You could also lose the prime in the oil pump. Only that oil that has already reached the valve train should return through the oil return passages down to the sump. When a filter with a proper ADV is removed the oil that comes out from the oil filter adapter base if seperate from block is from the upper oil galley draining back toward the filter. THe filter should full of oil! Breaking the oil filter seal is just like takeing your finger off the straw full of pop.
