Can an oil filters flow ability effect the performance of an engine?

I dont quite understand the benefits of having one brand flow oil better then another.

How does this effect the performance of an engine?

Who says it effects the performance? The flow of a filter can effect the amount of time the bypass valve is open, but because of the bypass valve you'll never see a huge drop in flow.

What a filter can do is effect the life of an engine. The better the filter media, the less engine wear over time.

But the better the filtering the less flow...unfiltered engine oil flowing readily is better than filtered oil not flowing enough.

That would be a meaningful statement if all filter media were the same and all filters had the same amount of media.

There is no immediate performance effect.

If the bypass valve is working correctly, no filter will not flow enough oil.

The only impact that a filter, and it's bypass valve setting, can have on an engine is the amount of hp required to pump the oil through/around it. The flow of all oil pumps, that do not reach their internal relief limits, is 100% ..100% of the time. You can have very dense media ..or a very porous media ..the flow is indifferent to them. If it is too dense, the bypass opens. No flow is lost ..ever ..again assuming that the oil pump relief limit is not achieved. If you hear start up noise with one filter over another, the only explanation is that the filter/bypass set up causes the pressure relief in the oil pump to open ...or the ADBV is worthless.
