Fuel system cleaners

So tell me does anyone know if fuel system cleaners are harmful to fuel pumps etc ? I have a 99 blzr and the gas runs through the windings of the fuel pump....have heard that some will in fact 'eat the coating off the windings' thus causing it to cease.

I have had a fuel pump die and co-ink-a-dinkily I was using the performance Improver from AMsoil...BUT I ALSO had 164K on the car..so it might have been due to pop...

So can/should/could I continue to use any cleaner in a mainteance mode say every 10K just to keep clean or am I risking my $1100 fuel pump for these additives...???

Any thoughts ?

$1100 for a fuel pump. I'd try for something other then the dealer.

I asked preivously about a fuel ad that would be same for older ball style GM injectors that supposedly corrode with most fuel ads. I got pointed toward FP60 by Lube control. It seems to be a good low dilution fuel cleaner.

Tony - A car engine is not a "perfect incinerator" and today's gasoline does leave deposits in fuel systems & combustion chambers.

Here's a good deal of info in an article at Southwest Research Institute that describes the problems with deposits in fuel injectors and on intake valves.

The bottom line is that after only 10,000 miles, the standard BMW 4 cylinder test engine always has measurable deposits.

So at a minimum, 2-3 fuel system treatments a year are necessary, to keep the deposits at a minimum.
