I'm about to store my car for 7 months. What kind of fuel stabilizer (additive) to use for the left over in the tank?

btw, the fuel system is sealed (no vent).

Thanks

Any!

Visit your local autoparts, marine, or small engine(lawnmower) stores and you'll find several brands of fuel preservatives!

uuhmn, I have a Jeep that is running around the yard on un- stabilized gas that is 3 1/2 yrs old. I'm kinda dumbfounded. OTOH, I've had lawn mower gas go bad in a month. I now use stabilizer in my lawn mower and snow blower gas. I would follow the recommended dosage on some stabilizer and top off the tank.

Stabil works for me in my Harleys. Can keep fuel up to a year with no ill effects. You can buy it pretty much anywhere (even at hardware stores).

Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) with great results. Adds some cleaning and lubricity to the fuel system as well (maybe Stabil does too, not sure). Also, If you don't use all the Stabil and don't want it sitting around, the MMO can be used up as a regular fuel add or put in the crankcase for some benefit.

Is Stabil readily available at Autozone or Pep Boys?

Btw, is it better to fill up the tank or leave about 1/4 full during storage?

Thanks!

Better a full tank IMHO, less atmosphere for the fuel to react with.

I believe thats also the difference between a vented and an unvented tanks fuel spoilage rate.

I use Stabil plus MMO at recomended treat rates...Overkill??? maybe. Not a single fuel issue in over 20 years with this mix though. Outdoor power equipment, stored auto's and stored fuel all receive this mix. Prior to this regimen there were some carburator issues. So I believe there is proof that this does work.

Rickey.

FYI... I got the mower out this weekend and fired it up. It was stored with only MMO in the gas (4-cycle engine) and it started on the first pull. Didn't do anything but check the oil first then pull the cord. I'm glad I got 'lucky' by using MMO as a fuel stabilizer.

You'll have a hard time convincing me there is anything better considering the cost and multiple uses it has.

Bugz - I've gone this route serveral times...hope I'm staying home for a while.

wash and wax
clean interior and glass
fill tires to max
fill tank with 93 octane (fuel loses octane as it sits) and a double dose of Sta-bil (available at walmart or any auto parts store) and then run it for about 10 miles.
change oil and filter (I'd recommend you go to Advance Auto Parts and get the Q-power or Penzoil Platinum while it's Buy one get one free)

hmmmm, i think that's it....
anyone else???

Good luck, wherever you're going and whatever you're doing.
