Looking through the shop manual for my Pajero/Montero, I noticed it has a pre-filter/fuel pump filter (number 7 in the diagram):

There is also an in-line filter, which I replace every 25,000 miles. I've owned the vehicle since new, and the fuel pump filter has never been replaced. Mileage, as it stands now, is 305,500 km/190,938 miles.

Would it be worthwhile replacing this filter, along with all the O-rings, etc. or is this something that's best left untouched. There's no mentioning of a replacement interval for in the owner's or service manual.

Thanks!

I wouldn't mess with it. Based on its location, I would guess that it is a life of the pump kind of item.

The fuel "socks" I've seen are not so much filters as they are screens to keep really large particles out of the FP.

Falcon,
I would leave it alone unless you picked up a tank of gas that you knew for sure was contaminated to the point the filter may be partially clogged. For sure change it if you change the pump at some future date.
