Fuel injector cleaning service at 60K?

Hi,
I have a MINT condition and running 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS sedan 2.0.
I am approaching 60,000 miles and will be having my scheduled
maintenance done soon.
I go to a AAA approved shop in Central Jersey and was thinking
about have them do the fuel injector cleaning service on my Elantra.
Is the 60K mark on good time to have this service and would I
see any real benefit?

Does the car perform well now? Good power, smooth stable idle, good MPGs, ect...?

If so don't bother.

But it probably won't hurt to stick a bottle of Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner in the gas tank. Follow the directions on the bottle.

Also I always recommend trying to use a
"top tier" brand of gasoline since it has many times more detergents in it and will do the BEST job of keeping a fuel system clean at all times.
 
IMHO your Elantra will no longer be in mint condition after it has had the injectors cleaned. To me it's a rip off, the only time it might be a benefit is as a last resort cheapo alternative to bench testing and bench cleaning them.

What about at the very least, inspect and clean throttle body?
My gas mileage has been a bit disappointing lately.

I do have a new air filter I just popped in, and for my 60K
service, the shop will be doing trans flush, coolant flush,
brake fluid flush, new spark plugs, inspect and clean PVC valve.
And thats pretty much it. All my belts(icluding timing) were replaced last June. The hoses are prefect and suspension too.
The car tracks super straight and I have always got nice even
tire wear.

You didn't mention if the engine (except for MPGs) is running smoothly, idling correctly, and has what seems to be the power it did when you purchased the car?

If the car has a MAF sensor it might be a good idea to clean the sensor off with CRC mass air flow sensor cleaner.

Plugs are a worthwhile idea, I would also replace the dist cap and rotor if it has those parts.

I would definitely suggest the Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner in tank additive. It is SAE tested and proven to be effective at cleaning the intake, injectors, and combustion chambers which will help MPGs if they are carbon coated.

I also agree about replacing the PCV valve.

Yes the engine runs SUPER smooth and correct idle and no lack of
power. I may have one of the nicest 2005 Elantras in Central Jersey! Not a single scratch on it, garage kept and detailed
professionally every 6 months.

Also, when adding the Techron to the tank, does it really matter if I pour it in at FULL, 1/2 or NEAR EMPTY tank??

I am going to start using Shell gas exclusively from now on and see it that may help with MPG.

Well that is a good sign, it rules out mechanical issues for sure.

The instructions recommend that you add the full bottle with about 1/4 tank left from what I recall. This is so that the product fully mixes into the gas. Add around 10 gallons or so, not much more.

Also for it work most effectively don't use the tank up on a long high speed drive. You want to try and have the tank last about 5 days or so if possible. The PEA detergent will soak into the carbon deposits and be baked off more effectively the longer the active detergent is left in the parts.

Again make sure you replace the distributor cap and rotor if the car has those parts. I would request this.

I would also clean the MAF sensor off if possible.

GREAT POINT. This can often be a source of dropping mpgs!!! Even if the sensor is getting lazy or slowing down it may not trigger a check engine light.

BOTH O2 sensors were replaced a few weeks ago when I had a
new flex pipe/car assembly installed.
 
Agree with the others who said to save your money on the fuel injector service. At many dealers, all they do is dump a bottle of some miracle-in-a-can into your gas tank anyway.

As far as your reduced economy, at this time of year it's frequently caused by the switch to winter gasoline.
 
I wouldnt pay for this service, i agree with the others about using Techron. My auto's get a dose every, or atleast every other oil change. I may be over doing it a bit but i sleep better !

Redline sl-1...some of the best money can buy,pour the whole thing right before filling the tank, if that doesnt do anything then its something else or combination of other thing
 
For your car to only have 60,000 miles and 7 years old you have had a lot of PM done to it. I believe in PM... but it seems to me a couple of them might have been unnece$$ary.
 
The brake fluid flush, while it might be a good idea I have never personally done it or known anybody that has done it unless the car was having the braking system completely rebuilt. I feel a transmission flush is unnecessary with only 60,00 miles. In fact I have heard of transmissions performing poorly after a flush as well as leaking. The fuel injection service is normally not necessary as long as you run a top tier gas and run a bottle of the synthetic Techron through the system a couple times a year. Most late model cars don't require new plugs until 100,000 miles. You said you had the timing belt replaced last June and it has yet to reach 60,000 mile and some don't require replacement for 100,000 miles...not sure about yours though. I don't know if there might be someone at the AAA approved shop you're using that might be over selling some of their services....just sayin!
 
Go put a good Techron type cleaner in the tank, then fill up. Maybe twice if you have problems, which you don't.
Which one? Chevron in the strongest version, Gumout Regane, Redline SI-1.

Also, I had the transmission flush done once at 30K and my trans
at 60K runs and shifts perfectly!I used Amsoil ATF. After 30,000 miles, the fluid STILL remains the same bright pink color it did when it was added.

Also, replacing standard platinum plugs at 60K on Elantras IS
required scheduled maintenance! Its 100K for Iridium plugs.

at first i was with him thinking your were overmaintaining this car, but after this post id say your on the money on what your doing following the required scheduled maintence..

My 2004 has 107k on it and has never had this done. Just plugs and wires, trans fluid, coolant changes and oil changes. Timing belt was done around 60k and will be done again in about a year. The death of most of these cars is a result of neglectful or perhaps unknowing owners not changing the timing belts. I've never experienced any fuel system issues with any of the 3 Hyundai products I've owned. I'd skip the service as you are not likely to benefit from it in any way.
