Fuel Efficiency with Space

Doesn't VW still sell a diesel wagon in the US? That wasn't included in the tests, and neither was the escape hybrid.

I get 17mpg to 18mpg in the city in my 3/4 ton 4x4 quad cab diesel pickup, and 19mpg to 20 mpg on the highway. This seems to place me in the pack of 'most economical' vehicles so I don't wanna hear no whiney complaints about driving a gas hog :^)

Well, fuel economy without the space was available in 1988 when 75 units of the VW Polo CL (Öko-Polo) were built. The two cylinder diesel injection engine with a G40 supercharger could go 100 km on only 3 liters diesel. That's 74.4 mpg!

Yep, the Scion xB is one ugly box. I suppose you've gotta understand what age group it's meant to attract though. In the 20 to 30 year old or so age group, styles tend to be pretty ugly. Baggy pants, greasy, shaggy hair, ugly facial hair shaved into strange pencil-thin patterns, overly large, bulky shoes (girls mostly), and summer shorts that look more like pants....since they go down way past their knees.
(Yes, I do consider myself rather old....even at 42!)

Typical Consumer reports. A Buick Lesabre gets 30mpg and has more space then most of their vehicles listed. Anything with a four cylinder that gets less then 30mpg is not economical in my book.

Everything is reletive, right? I look at 65 year olds now but they just don't seem so old anymore. I've got wrinkles, back pain, poorer eye site, and a slower metabolism, so I feel about 65 anyway.
Life is cruel!

The mileage is overall based on epa city/highway, a Lesabre does not achieve 30 mpg overall just on the highway (which is good). It only achieves in the low 20's for a combined value.

Also the cargo capacity of a the LeSabre is the trunk which pales in size to the vehicles listed.

I garantee I can haul a lot more in a Lesabre then a Scion. I once hauled two people and 12 14 gallon totes in my wifes car with room to spare.
