You can not get more stable than NO VII as in my second test on base oil alone. And it still thinned as much as the VII 10/30 which used a SSI of 35, VII which is a pretty good one.

I do not know this to be fact I do not blend that way.

Thanks, I stand corrected. I forgot that you used NO VII's and it still thinned. The cheap VII thing I was told from RLI.

Have you read the thread on the super-secret 5w-40 oil run on an Audi with fuel dilution problems? Lots of good information in the dialog between Terry, RI_RS4 and others. It appears that they came up with a solution.

From what I have read, it's not this, but that they will use VII that exhibits temporary viscosity collapse in the bearings (seen as lower HT/HS) in order to meet the energy conserving requirements.
 
Let's just say you have 1.3% fuel dilution and you go for a long hard drive, wouldnt it burn off? Isn't fuel dilution easily caused by one cold startup, incomplete warm up just prior to taking an oil sample?

Also, regarding the 2.3L DISI showing high insolubles, there are a few things at work here: from tests we know that most engine wear occurs during high loads, fairly independant of RPM. Now you have an engine, the 2.3L, not only breaking in in almost every report we;ve seen, but also running SINFULLY INADEQUATE oils (ie 5w20 conventional)... It does not add up to me, it seems like a "worst case scenario" to subject a 2.3L 4 cylinder with DI and maxumum torque coming on at 3000rpm. Remember this 280ft/lbs is V6/V8 territory, the only difference is, that the force is distributed across FOUR cylinders/rod journals, not 6 or 8. To be fair, an equivalently tuned V8 would be be pushing 560ft/lbs @3000rpm. DO you think people would be running these Jane and Sally 5w20's/bulk 5w30 conventional oils in an engine like that??? Of course not people would say youre crazy. But for each cylinder IT MAKES SO DIFFERENCE, it still see's such heavy loads. SO to make a comparison between other DI engines and the 2.3L in term sof break-in period insolubles actually speaks to the engine's credit all things considering. Try running 5w20 and 5w30 bulk dino in an FSI engine and see if it can make it for the entire OCI!! Relativity, people!
 
We have found fuel dilution problems in vehicles with starting problems and when these vehicles get repaired the oil gets changed. Good to hear that Bruce might agree with us.
