Front strut problems 2001 honda civic

I have a 2001 Honda Civic with 140,000 miles (224,000 km) and have replaced the front struts 3 times due to complete failure (leaking). The cost each time was about $675.00 USD (900 CDN). Honda Canada has fully reimbursed me but only after I threatened to sue them. The struts failed at about 31,000 miles (50,000 km). Honda canada stated for the record that this was due to normal wear and tear! I have had Hondas before the 2001 model year with no problems but since they redesigned the 2001 civic with macpherson struts (took out the double wishbone) I have had nothing but problems. Your feedback/similiar experiences please.

I have heard of similar problems on that vintage 2001-2002 Civic but recent ones are better. A poor parts supplier was used. I personally would go the aftermarket route as obviously the OEM parts are junk in this case. (not typical for Honda).

My 95 Civic never had any suspension work in its 210,000 miles life with me but that is a different animal.

That's expensive! On my 92 Nissan I bought struts for $59 each, removed the strut assemblies from the car and had a shop install the new ones in the springs for $40. reinstalled the assemblies and torque the top nut myself.
Saves alot of money.
