Front Loader (Washing Machine) Question

Here on campus, all of the laundry facilities using commercial sized Maytag Neptune Front Loaders. Coming from a house with only top loaders, I'm still uncertain if I am using the front loader correctly.

How full can I load this machine and still obtain decent results? I've been loading it to about 90% of capacity (loosely) and using warm water with the Tide High Efficiency (front loader specific) double concentrated detergent.

Am I overloading the machine ??

I've always been told that for front loaders, you cut the amount of detergent in half, as they use less water than a top-loader.

I would say to just use good judgement when deciding how full to load it. It can handle more clothing due to the lack of an agitator, although some do have side-mounted fins to keep things moving. As long as you leave enough room for clothes to move around freely, you should get good results. But definitely back off on the detergent....the amount you're using probably isn't getting rinsed out completely.

Thanks. I'm using the Tide Double Concentrated High Efficiency detergent made specifically for front loaders, so there's no adjustment of the dosage necessary unlike with conventional detergents.

Good advice. We've got an LG front loader. It all depends on how heavy & dense the items you want to wash are. Most items you can load right to the top on our LG. Once wet, the volume in there shrinks way down. Most of your consumer grade front loaders will stop if they are overloaded or way out of balance.

You should always mix large and small pieces of laundry.

The cool thing about front loaders too is that they are less prone to inbalaence problems.
