Free oil changes...dilemma

Yes, I agree the Valvoline All-Climate leaves a lot to be desired. I had a similar situation with 2 free services with Pennzoil (I don't like it). Because the dealer stocked various oils for customers preferences, I offered to pay $5 for my choice of conventional oil and $12 for my choice of synthetic. It was a simple 'upgrade' to the free oil, and I paid the difference, still getting a good deal. Just to be sure, I watched them install the M1, so as to not be mislead. I was happy to pay the extra, and the dealer was just happy to keep me happy, after I explained my reasoning for using M1. At any rate, I wish you good luck. If you're lucky enough to get a brand new vehicle, and plan on keeping it for some time, do what it takes to keep you (and the wife's) peace of mind.

Don't feel bad about saying no to the free oil changes...Fairfield Auto, where I bought my Rolla, offers free oil changes every 5000 miles for five years with the purchase of the new car. Unless those free oil changes are using Mobil 1 and a genuine Toyota filter, I'm not gonna do it...

The 1ZZ-FE engine in my 03 Corolla is a one loud ******, especially if you push it. Some people say it is becase the exhaust header is tubing steel and not thick cast iron.
I consider puting a Thermo-Tec header blanket to deal with that.

Nevertheless, my used oil analysis came back great with dealer's conventional oil at 5000 miles (4 ppm Fe).
Let me know if synthetic oil quiets it down, maybe I need to start using one.

nothing is free you usually pay one way or the other I always chage my own oil, except for one time my new 98 gmc came with free oil changes so i had the dealer do it and after I arrived back at the house I checked the oil it was over the fill mark. The next oil change I did myself I needed a half inch breaker bar to remove the drain plug. Mike

I think I am going to end up just bagging on the free oil changes. I will let everybody know if I notice it quieting back down when I switch back to Mobil 1.

It is free and a Toyota, enough said. You will dump this car LONG before there are any oil related issues, which I have never heard of in any car and I have a lot of them.
Also, what is wrong with Valvoline? Please don't say the "experts" on this site convinced you that Valvoline is sub-par, pleeeeeease. I have used Valvoline in my 1986 SAAB Turbo that now has 250K+ miles with 7500 mile OCI. I'll recommend Valvoline because I have used it not just surfed the internet for stats and I currently have alomost 20 cars/trucks and have been a collector for about 12 years now with all the service done by me.

dagmando there is nothing wrong with Valvoline. It is after all a SL (soon to be SM) rated oil.

If its free use the Valvoline with 3,000 mi drains.

However I see no reason to pay more for Valvoline All-Climate Dino than Motorcraft Synthetic Blend...
