Yes, I agree the Valvoline All-Climate leaves a lot to be desired. I had a similar situation with 2 free services with Pennzoil (I don't like it). Because the dealer stocked various oils for customers preferences, I offered to pay $5 for my choice of conventional oil and $12 for my choice of synthetic. It was a simple 'upgrade' to the free oil, and I paid the difference, still getting a good deal. Just to be sure, I watched them install the M1, so as to not be mislead. I was happy to pay the extra, and the dealer was just happy to keep me happy, after I explained my reasoning for using M1. At any rate, I wish you good luck. If you're lucky enough to get a brand new vehicle, and plan on keeping it for some time, do what it takes to keep you (and the wife's) peace of mind.
