I have several oil changes of Castrol Edge, PP, GC, and a case of PYB however this oil change I cleaned up my scattered, and half bottles of oil stash. I have picked up oil on sale dirt cheap in couple quarts. My current fill is 2 quarts Havoline Deposit Shield 5w-20, partial Quart of GC, Quart of Castrol semi-synthetic 10w30, sand the rest Castrol High Mileage 5w30. This will be a shorter than normal OCI ( normal 7500 OCI on conventional) run back t back on a K&N oil filter (second run on this filter..been running filter two OCI's per owners manual on conventional). I'm not sure how far to run this oil maybe 4k-5k.

I'm sure many of us get in this situation ending up with stray quarts/partial quarts of oil. I stand back in awe however when I have perfectly good synthetic, and filters yet I chose to clean up my stray quart oil stash. The reason I decided to do it this time was to get my second run on the oil filter, it's summer time so the other than 5w-20 will be a good time to run this oil... and I guess I'm just a cheapo !!

Yeah, I too have alot of oil(s) in my stash. I mix all the time as my cars will get a consistant blend of whatever 2qts of syn and whatever 3qts dino. All oils in my stash are the products held in high reguard here at BOB's. For example: I may use 2qts of PP and 3qts of VWB or 2qts of Castrol Syntec and 3qts of Hav DS. Whatever!:)

Ive done this a bunch of times over the years, sometimes mixing 4 or 5 different brands/weights. Id much rather have a full crankcase of mixed up clean oil, than an empty one or 15,000 mile old oil.

Aren't you worried about screwing up the ad packs with all these different oils and ending up with a substandard oil in the crank case?

Sounds like a good idea to clean up your stash....better to use it up since with the updated standards, new formulas will be shipped out shortly.....I know Pennzoil in particular is "on the ball" - my local WM has the "new" designed jugs of HM and PYB 5qt jugs, BUT - they still have the "old" quarts mixed in :P I pointed it to their attention, but they just said eh it's all good oil, they just keep rotating the older bottles to the front lol. But honestly most shoppers won't likely notice the difference even.....

No! I have put on many hundreds of thousands of miles doing this and even when the rest of the vehicle was junk after 18 years the engine was still purring(all dino). Before discovering BITOG, I would never use synthetic oil, only dino(on sale). Now with the "Product, Rebate, Sale" section, and each time I travel, Im looking for deals, I'am now finding some real deals on both syn/dino. Mixing 2qts syn w/ 3qts dino, I don't think that I have a substandard mix. I have so many qts/jugs of oil in my stash(syn/dino) that I will almost always have orphan qts of one brand or another. When my stash starts to get a little low, I go on a man hunt for more. This is also when I do an OCI with 4-5 different brands/weights on one/two vehicles and run them as normal. Been mixing oils for OCI since the early 70's and never an oil related engine issue. I've had other engine issues but, never internal. Ususlly fuel system, vacuum, spark, sensors etc.
Also, each time that I have had to replace gaskets(which allow a view into the engine), everything was nice and clean in my engines. I'll bet, inside of yours' too!

I've been running stray qt mixes for a while now. The latest is a 50/50 mix of 5W20 PYB and M1 5W40 Truck and SUV with a 300 ml bottle of Lubro Moly. My 93 Aerostar is purring like a kitten with this mix.

Nice! I am doing the same thing. I had some Rotella 15w40 left over from my dirtbike so I mixed with a quart of Napa 5w20 and some MMO to thin it up a bit.

Sounds good! IMO what I created is a good 5W30 synthetic blend with a lot of Moly! Better than any blen I could get in a store. I better hide.

I have decided to run this frankinbrew out to the oil minder light comes on which is around 7k (gives me a nice reminding blinking light for a couple hundred miles at startup) I can run my 7500 mile OCI in as short 10 weeks sometimes...however now tat school is out it may take me a full three months to run this OCI out.

I have run the frankinbrews as well before with no problems, however I do try to keep it to two oils when cleaning up the stash, this time it just worked out that I had a broader cleanup you could say.

My next oil change for '00 E430 will be the last 6 quarts M1 0W20 + 2 quarts red-cap M1 15W50 + 8 oz VSOT. I still have 2 quarts red-cap M1 15W50 left after that, it will use it with M1 0W30 next year.

I have been mixing oils since the 70's too with not one engine failure. I do think they are better than store oils because you get full ad packs plus different modifiers and base oils. I usually end up with heavier oils from garage sales like gallons of 15w40 delvac so I thin it with 5w20. I really think it makes a good summer hm oil.
We did a little study in my friends shops he has worked at over the last 20 years. Almost every major engine failure he has rebuilt was from running out of oil or not changing it for anywhere from 5000-50000 miles. Most of these idiots tried to claim them as warranty and my buddy loves to give them the bad news. He likes his customer pay jobs. Its easy to prove too. Just look for the crusty oil.
