are these filters any good? ive heard nothing but good about them but just want to be sure. arent they supposedly frams only good filter? would you guys use one without any worries? thinking about using one for a 3k interval of M1 5W30 high mileage.

good for up to 10k. very high quality. metal end caps, double layer media and a metal screen backer.

They are a little expensive, in my opinion. You can get a similar filter like the PureOne for less. 3K on that oil and filter combo may be a little pricy and unnecessary too.
i usually buy the 5 quart jug for 24 dollars and a pure one for 7. 31 bucks total and its cheaper than at the dealer (40 bucks). just got my UOA back from blackstone i had a small amount of coolant in my oil, i knew i had a leaking head gasket, they said keeping the oci at 3k is good and its not increasing wear levels. car runs fine besides having to add a little to the overflow bottle every few weeks.
if I had to use a fram.. this would be the one.. however.. I can get a Purolator or Wix for a few bucks less AND it's already a known quality filter/design. Fram shouldn't be charging more for what everyone else is already doing.

This is a very high quality filter and I would put it on hold if you haven't installed it yet and grab a puro classic (or something in that price range) if you plan on shortening your OCI's. This filter is good for much longer runs. Would you use a M1 EP Filter for a 3k OCI? The Fram you have is (IMO) slightly more "robust" than a M1EP or K&N.

i personally use the group 7 filters made by purolator here in the shop i believe oil flow is the most important thing a filter can do
The Fram Extended Guard uses a wire mesh backed dual ply synthetic media. This is not your average paper filter, and its very capable of extended OCI use. I posted a video not too long ago where I dissected the Extended Guard media...it really is two plies, and its more like fiberglass then paper. very similar to the material you find in the EA Amsoil and RP filters.
When this filter was $7 at WM, it was a steal. Now its $9, and there is more competition in that category from filters like the M1, Pure 1, etc. That said, for a long OCI, this filter would most likely outlast either of those.
I am a born and bred Fram hater...but I've used the Extended Guards on my car without issue, and would happily do so again.

I recently installed a X2 on a Honda Accord. This car gets neglected and I wanted to see how it performed.
The cheapy Fram (OCOD) was original equipment on my John Deere lawnmower with a Kawasaki engine (although painted black with JD writing).
Fram makes the replacement filters sold through the Honda dealerships for their automobiles.
I truthfully don't feel that Fram is anywhere near as bad as people on this forum portray. I will say that the X2 Fram is a fairly heavy filter compared to others, if that carries any weight.

To each their own, but 3k on that oil and filter combination is way overkill, easy 10k OCI combination.
But yeah, XG is a solid filter, and imo the only Fram that comes close to being worth it's cost, if run for ~10k oci's.

The Extended Guard is a tank.
If they weren't so pricey I think I would use it over the PureOne. I think Purolators make they're cans too thin. Probably can crush it with bare hands. But like others have said, for 3000 miles you can use something like a normal Purolator or Supertech and be fine.

I honestly admit to avoiding Frams based on the OCOD concerns. Now, while I wouldn't use an entry level Fram, in part because I don't typically run the traditional 3k mile oil filters even for 3k mile runs(P1 for that at a good price)...I would use their Extended Guard for my app. Not sure about the mid-range offers, OTOH.

the thing i like most about the XG is the wire mesh backer. to be honest most filters that cost more dont have it.
