Re using a filter never makes any sense. People should stop being cheap and just buy a new filter. You have nothing to lose but a couple bucks in your pocket. Or on the flip side, use the same filter, load it up, tear the media or put it in bypass constantly. Sounds like the extra $~10 or so is well worth it.

I agree with you on that one. My manual says I CAN use a filter twice and also I never HAVE to change the transmission fluid. I don't follow either. As for oil filters getting more efficient as they load up, I don't buy that. More BITOG myth I think. Oil filters under high hydraulic pressure are not the same as air filters. I have yet to see oil filter companies specify efficiency of a new filter versus a loaded filter. They load the filters with particles per the test, and publish one efficiency number. I use a new, flowing as intended, filter each time, and get all the old oil out I can with it. If the filter looks pretty clean when I take it off, that's good news not bad.

Oil filter media isn't under high hyraulic pressure.
The only pressure it sees is whatever small drop in pressure occurrs across the filter when the engine is running and oil is being pumped.
The can is subject to full system pressure, while the media and center tube aren't.
The can contains pressure while the media merely allows oil to flow through it and the actual pressure loss across the filter is minimal.

What about this idea. Stand into a 40 mph wind, you probably can brace against it. Replace the wind with a 20 ft. high wall of water. What happens to you then? The outside of the filter media is blasted with the material in the oil regardless of pressure drop across the filter. Everything in the filter is subjected to the pressure inside the can, like divers are subjected to pressure according to depth. The high velocity of oil through a filters forces particles through that may have been lodged. If a filter is so plugged as to make all the holes tinier than designed, the pressure gradient will rise and the filter will not flow well and bypass. I believe a new filter is at it's best, my two cents worth and that's how I see it so far.

The used oil analysis on multiple OCI'S with the same filter have been posted. The filter works better and better.

There was someone with a Tacoma, I believe, whose filter was working ridiculously well on its third OCI.

That would assume used oil analysis measure oil filter efficiency and there were no other factors except the oil filter. I don't think that "test" showed anything about the oil filter getting better. In the sae oil filter efficiency test they load the filter, nothing mentioned about efficiency increasing as far as I know.

Then change the Fram Ultra every-other OCI.
