Fram Ultra Synthetic oil filter as of March 2024 - Is it still a good choice?

As I said, current XG an acceptable choice. Like many here though, having purchased and used the OG Ultra, by comparison hard not to be disappointed with the current one. Kinda went from a great spin on filter, to a rather pedestrian option, imo.

I’ll agree the current ULTRA’s would be ok to 10k

I won’t push one past that. I’ll continue to use my OG ULRA’s I have. Fram cheapening the ULTRA does NOT appeal to me.

First brands hasn’t messed up the champ labs style ecores yet. They can last 20k in the wife’s van and after 10k in my ram they look perfectly fine. I do agree otherwise with what you’ve said about most other non wire backed brands not holding up well.
I think they had a great fiber end cap eCore. Almost all media.
Now metal ends with the ??? fitting spring …

So much love for the OG Ultra ... now so much sadness and disappointment. Hear that Fram ... 😜:D
I've always found that stocking up on a good thing while it lasts is something I never regret.
You never know when it may become unavailable or change for the worse.

Imagine if we could go back in time to buy the wire backed Fram Ultra, and buy 100 filters.
They could be stored in a room temperature dry private stash for future use.

From the latest C&Ps in the BITOG Oil Filter section, the Fram Ultra's ongoing cheapening has resulted in defects including leaks of unfiltered oil at the leaf spring which reduces it's efficiency, and also some have experienced tears of it's internal media at 4,000 miles of use.

Many now say the Fram PH extra guard low priced filters are now Fram's best filter, just because they haven't been cheapened as much as the Fram Ultra.
