Exactly. I would like the OP to explain the harm in using this filter.

I see both - they might be punching (not drilling) so the surface face to face with mesh rolls inward away from the media ...

I think it's more about feelings and worry than it is about substantiated evidence. It's the BITOG sickness.

His sig even says he won't use the louver filters! The next step when holes are getting smaller and smaller is louvers.

Gee.....I worried about who I'm going to vote for to run this country towards the end of the year...and my ever escalating health care premiums.

Seems more important........

But I agree-some of this BITOG sickness is quite bizarre....and amusing to us relative newcomers to this forum.

Maybe I'm missing something not worrying about the CVT transmission in my wife's Subaru.

Actually, the NAPA Gold has a much better efficiency than the WIX XP / NAPA Platinum. 95% @ 20 microns vs 50% @ 20 microns.

The holes are obviously punched out, and they are punched inward so the lip is on the inside away from the media. It's probably by design, and I see no harm in how the holes come out - I'd still use it, and I'm pretty picky on quality. There's nothing to worry about C.O.D. !

The burrs are very apparently real in this pic. Not an illusion or figment of the ops imagination. What's freaky is that almost every body else in this thread is blatantly denying the obvious. That's suspicious to say the least. I have a fu rifht here that doesn't have burrs. In fact I have a few filters of different brands laying around and when I looked I saw no burrs in any of them. The one the op showed is defective and it cannot be denied.

Dusting off my old machine shop hat - yes you would punch outside inward - and in this case would indeed leave the kind and gentle side where the mesh/media is ... I'm still buying them ...

Not sealed as in completely wrapped with clear plastic but they do have a plastic tape seal holding the box shut.

Another reason NOT TO BUY, if you cannot inspect the filter without tearing a security seal, then you have to buy first then return when it if found to be defective, which seems to be alot of the XG filters lately!!!!!!!!!!!1

ZOMGWTHBBQSAUCE! What next? The paint color has changed tones between batches? So what is the expectation--that the holes will be back bored and chamfered to prevent turbulence as the oil passes through?

I'm not seeing anything with that filter that would stop me from using it, they are well made. As someone pointed out the holes are punched not drilled, as the punch head dulls from use it tends to bend the metal slightly more than a new one and isn't quite as clean.
No big deal at all as far as the filters performance is concerned.

Funny/comical thread read. Some that were mildly amused with the louver phobia but mostly let it go because imo currently only used by other than topic manufacturer, quickly jump the OP here. Others seemingly use this thread to post off topic hearsay and false information about Wix filters.

As I said often about the use of a louvered center tube, this too seems 'to me' like much ado about nothing.

What I don't care for is breaking the seals in WM to examine FU filters indiscriminately. I'm all for best practice of examining a filter prior to purchase, but breaking seals for purposes of taking pics, doesn't seem right to me.

I guess Fram needs to put a warning label on all filter boxes from now on. Caution: Any perceived inconsistencies with this filter may be hazardous to your sanity.
