8000 miles on a filter rated for 15000 miles. I don't get it. Why pay extra for a long life filter and only run it a standard interval.
The ultra is slightly less efficient than the tough guard so why not pay a bit less, get better efficiency considering the interval is short enough that even a standard orange can would suffice?
Anyways those ultra filters are certainly a well built filter. Looking at them dissected I just laugh at the ignorant fram bashing when it inevitably pops up.
Tough to beat especially when you consider the capacity they are capable of.

Thanks for the pics.

I think the Ultra is a hair better than the Tough Guard (99+% Ultra vs 99% TG). See Fram's website.

Really?

Last time I looked the tg was slightly more efficient but less holding capacity m

Thank you for straightening me out. I don't want to post inaccurately so I appreciate you correcting my oversight.

Sorry guys for the inaccurate info. I was sure the tg was slightly more efficient. I'll pay closer attention

Thanks again zee

Clevy - I doubt the Ultra is anything more significantly efficient to make any real difference. I'd consider them basically the same efficiency since they are so close.

With metal wire backed media that doesn't matter much. Here's one I ran for 12K. 12K Ultra XG7317
Here is one I ran for 17,475 miles.

I could not get the pics to down load.

Well a Fram Ultra is $8.97 at walmart
A Wix is $7.99 at oreillys
For a grand total difference of 98 cents while they aren't on the same tier as far as filter quality goes they are definitely very close in price.

For a cheap decent filter get a napa silver for $3,82 at my local store.

Although I would argue a wix is closer to a napa silver than a fram ultra. What are u paying for other than a silicone adbv in the wix?

The media is allegedly a little better, and you lose the combo valve going to a Gold/WIX-but to get media that begins to approach an Ultra (at least in mileage longevity) it takes a Platinum/XE.
