Installed with capacity of Mobil One 5w30 in my 244k mile Sierra and was rewarded with engine tap that went away after a few miles and noticeably lower oil pressure(about 25-30 at 15-1600 rpm. Normal readings were about 40-50 at 15-1600. I began to think definte trade in time. Decided to drop in and pick up the stand by Delco filter today and viola, instantly quieter engine and back to the normal pressures.
Never in over 40 years of changing my own oil have I ever seen a defective filter. Anyone else and with the new can't be beat Fram ?

I've never had an oil filter (and I've tried them all) make any of my engines tick or make any noise. Does this only apply to cars that have filters that mount with the holes facing downward?

The only time I ever noticed a difference was when I had my old LTD with the sideways mounted filter. Back in the day, there were plenty of specified filters that did not have an ADBV, and only a couple that did (the new at the time FL1A and the AC Delco equivalent). If I was running the AC or Motorcraft, there was a noticeable reduction in startup noise over those filters without an ADBV. I've had pretty good luck with ADBVs, be they nitrile or silicone.

I've only had one filter that I felt was defective. A OCOD on a Honda I owned in the late 80's.

The ADBV was defective or didn't exist (I didn't check). So the engine would rattle for a second or two on cold starts. I replaced it and never had issues again.

I had a 2000 Explorer that I put a FRAM XG8A on and it made the the engine noticeably more noisy. Switched it back to Motorcraft and it never did it again.
