Fram Tough Guard vs. Fram Orange Box

Which is the better filter. The Tough Guard is a few dollars more and comes with oiled media.

Does the oiled media increase the Tough Guards filtering efficiency?
Does it provide more air flow?
Does more air flow = more unfiltered dirt entering the engine?
What are the downsides to the Tough Guard?

Good luck getting any kind of substantial answer. I asked this same question about a year ago and never got one...I guess not too many people use the FRAM TG air filters. I'm a bit hesitant when it comes to oiled media anyway. FRAM's oil and fuel filters may be [censored], but their air and transmission filters seem to be fine, so just use the regular orange-box one.

Maybe Fram charges an extra $2 for the TG due to the oiled media.

My impression is that the TG is only available for trucks and for vehicles that mught go off road. I assume the oiledmedia enhances filtration. Flow might be diminished but should be more than ample and will not affect power or fuel economy in a car with a MAF airflow sensor.

Im assuming that the higher end air filters like the oiled media FRAM or the Purolator Pure One air filter will stop more dirt. I would consider using these air filters over their standard filters if I lived in dry dusty areas such as the south west. I've seen the sand and dust stormes in AZ, the lack of rain in FL and sand stormes so strong in OK that vehicles would actually get their paint sandblasted off. But where I live, the standard issue is just fine. Especially this summer where we have had rain at least 2 days a week to keep the dirt down. It's raining now!

I just bought Purolator Pure One air filter for my 99 Dodge Dakota. With a $2 off coupon at Pep Boys, price was $11.99 so I figured I'd give it a try. Yes we've had a lot of rain here in Rochester this summer, but I'm often on dusty dirt roads in the Southern Tier area.
