Unknown miles or oil for this filter. Came from a Ford that is getting engine repairs.

That filter looks like it has surpassed 10K miles on it, IMHO. The oil is very dirty as well beyond it's use.
This filter is from a Ford 300 inline 6. Anyone who is familiar with this motor knows that it has a fiber/plastic camshaft timing gear. This gear failed, and was replaced with a metal gear. There were a few of these fiber/plastic camshaft gear particles that made it into the filter as you can see some in the first pic, but most remained in the oil pan. The engine is back together and is in good running condition again.TG has a 15k rating. Tough to tell for sure how long the OCI was and we don't know what the engine repairs are. Nonetheless, looks pretty rough for the course! Hopefully we can get an update as that would be helpful.
How many miles on the engine when the cam gear failed? It's really the only weak link on those engines. This filter is from a Ford 300 inline 6. I believe the odometer has rolled over once or twice so either 180,000 or 280,000. You're guess is as good as mine. How many miles on the engine when the cam gear failed? It's really the only weak link on those engines.
Thank you for providing a follow up. No way for us to know as it wasn't mentioned in the OP. Now we know for sure. This filter is from a Ford 300 inline 6. I guess they call it phenolic/fiber gears. But it resembled, and drilled out like a hard nylon plastic.Nylon timing gears? Learned something today! I thought only GM was that crazy!
GM was infamous for using them on the SBC, nylon coated steel, and they fell apart regularly. Crazy Ford used them on a TRUCK engine, gear noise should be considered a feature!I guess they call it phenolic/fiber gears. But it resembled, and drilled out like a hard nylon plastic.
A lot of that is due to the primitive method used for opening of the can. Atleast there are not any holes in the media. I do question Fram's logic in thinking it's a 15k filter. Maybe up to 10k for me and that's questionable..Looks like it is ready to crumble
It's based on holding capacity, not on looks.I do question Fram's logic in thinking it's a 15k filter. Maybe up to 10k for me and that's questionable..
