With the AAP FRAM clearance I purchased several filters for my 2022 1.5 Malibu. After looking at them I noticed one is not like the others. Here are some photos. Input is appreciated. Also I noticed ADBV is cracked I think I may just cut it open instead of using. For $3.00 it’s not worth the drive to return.

Yes there does appear to be wire backing.
How about the Champ Lab built one? I see it has louvers, so probably hard to tell, but I'd cut that one open because of the cracked ADBV. Think that's a first time seeing anyone reporting a cracked ADBV on a new filter.

The one with the split ADBV is a Champ Labs monstrosity. Toss it. The other one is OG style! Use it.

Can you see wire backing through the holes on that one?
If there wasn't a split in the ADBV would you still recommend tossing it?

No. But personally I stay way from First Brands made filters due to various QC problems.
Just picked up this Fram Titanium from AAP for $3 like the op. However mine appears to have louvers with pink media and wirebacking. Is it still a crapshoot when it comes to potentially having the wavy spring, similar to the Fram Endurance?

That car doesn’t even need an ADV as the filter is straight up and down anyway….. so u can use it if u really wanted. Personally for $3, I’d toss it like u tho!

Not really true. In that case, the ADBV still prevents any oil back flowing form the galleries above the filter from gravity. Ideally, all galleries above the filter need to stay full of oil, and not drain out through the oil filter.

If I was going to gamble on one it would be a wire backed Titanium. Louvers are open, run it and cut it after.

The split on the adbv doesn’t matter as the lip of the adbv isn’t sealing there anyway. 90 deg to the slit it’s easy to see the lip disappears and covers the holes. Fram should be forced to recall all these and the variants which are others like ST at Walmart. That would probably finish them. There is no centering of the adbv and the holes are too far out. A company needs to keep the experienced qualified pros not fire them and replace with clueless.
