Fram TG7317, 5200mi on 2011 Mazda2 - CUT OPEN

No problems to report.

This was run for 5238mi in my 2011 Mazda2 with 0W20 Pennzoil Platinum. The TG7317 is an oversized filter for this application, normally calling for a 6607.


It was replaced with Castrol Edge 0W20(black jug) and a Fram Ultra XG6607.

I chose the smaller stock sized filter as I am planning on running this filter for two intervals(if I can bring myself to leave it on next time... ha), and figured the smaller filter will mean less "dirty" oil left behind.

I think that looks really good. I've used the oversized Fram on my Altima. The 6607 looks like it's sized for a weedeater

I've got a weedeater sized engine so it's all good

I read the giant post of Bob's a long time ago of him running an engine with NO filter and no issues so I'm not too concerned. The filter is good for 15k, I'll be replacing it at 10k(2 oil changes). I may get antsy and replace it at 5k anyway. But I've at least got a filter that can go the distance now

I'll be getting another UOA after the second change to see how comfortable I am with continuing to do the filter every other OCI or not.

Yeah, your engine must be real clean; as my TG-3614 looked dark and wavy with a 8,400 mile OCI run of EDGE. It has Durablend 5w30 and 2k into this its Amber looking

Looks really good. I recently switched from a tearolator to the Tough Guard 7317 in my Ridgeline. Its funny you call that a bigger filter. On the truck it looks absolutely tiny.

NICE! my Honda Shadow takes that family of filters (6607 is shorty, 6017* is mid-length, and 7317 is long); have used Autolite 6607 in the past for short OCI's to 'flush' the engine/transmission shortly after buying the bike

* 6017 is Fram's motorcycle oil filter (basically an orange can or TG equivalent with a high price tag) for my Honda and shares the same baseplate as the 6607 and 7317

currently have a NAPA Pro Select installed but considering TG7317's (if it clears the frame rail) or a TG6607's for future use

If anyone wants to get crazy check out the Baldwin B1431. It's a full 4 inches long and has a 14 psi bypass valve

The Ultra is a great filter! The CQ filters are very good for the price, too. The red represents an amazing value, and the blue is a reboxed M1.

Fram should put the CQ Red filters in their orange cans, and replace the TG innards with what's in the CQ Blue.

I'm using the Ultra 7317 on my Nissan, I intend to run it at least 15k,but I don't put many miles on the car it might take awhile

Looks good.. I talked very highly of Fram Ultra and Fram TG at work.. However we no longer sell them at Advanced anymore.

I dunno why.

However we still sell the FRAM Extra Guard.

I cant figure that out.

That's because you carry the excellent (Fram-made) Carquest filters now. The CQ Red has metal end caps and costs less than the OCOD. I'd easily choose it over the TG.

The CQ Blue, which you should be getting in soon, is a reboxed M1.
