Fram TG: Controversial Filter?

Fram TG seems to be a very polarizing filter. I'm seeing two opinions on it.

1) TG is a nice upgrade over the EG.

2) There is not enough changes over the EG to make this filter "worth it". Filter is overpriced and stores shouldn't sell it. TG is a lot worse than Ultra.

Which camp is right?

For $2-$3 more, I'll just buy the Ultra. That saves from having to debate FOC, FEG, and FTG choices.

I never thought I'd see the day that Merk supports a Fram filter and not a Wix!

If the tg was a buck more than the eg, there would be some value there.

As priced, it is off the table. For double the price of an eg you can get 3x the filter with the ultra, making it a value in my book ... And I don't even like fram.

The TG is one of my favorite filters.

The TG being roughly 2x the price of the EG seems reasonable to me. Since the 3 filters share the same can materials, manufacturing processes etc., I dont think we should expect to see a linear price difference. Since the ultra is just a little more, one can get more value per mile by going this route although most of BITOG runs them to about half their potential. That said, the TG seems to fit the majority of ones needs here.

In regards to a valueless filter, have you guys checked out the WIX and Napa Golds? Way too expensive at normal prices IMO. They are pushing $8 here.

I made the switch out of necessity; I kept having oil drip off my Wix filter. I kept thinking I must be over tightening it or something.

So I made the switch to Fram. I thought I'd better keep a close eye on the Fram since it's a Fram; so I was sliding under the car every night for a week checking for leaks. The Fram had a drop of oil ON TOP of the filter. "How the heck does that happen?" I thought.

That's when I discovered the oil pressure sensor above it was leaking.

XG is the only Fram I'd use, the TG is just a SCOD.

My view is that Fram should put the silver can's guts into the orange can, and simply have the one product below the Ultra, not to mention get rid of that HM nonsense. The grey can is hard to get in Canada anyhow, and the HM one is never on sale. They don't need four tiers of filters, especially an overpriced, underbuilt orange can. However, the paint job is recognizable, so upgrade the internals and get rid of the grey can that so few buy.

I think the primary difference between the TG & XG is in the filter MEDIA.
