Fram Pro Series Synthetic = Fram Ultra?

Filters are filters...imho. At Napa stores, that Napa gold filter you buy for say 8 or 9 bucks, you can ask for a Napa pro-select that comes in a plastic wrapper, same filter, but cheaper, your not paying for that pretty gold cardboard...marketing is a wonderful thing, we are all guilty of the pretty wrappings and ribbons...by the way, that proselect oil filter we sell to Honda for $2.50 cents, I guess the Honda customer pays $10 for it..

By the way, I see many invoices each day, you guys want to know what stuff sells to the shops for, just list it and I will try to get back to you. Napa, Auto Zone, Advanced, Oriellys, we are all about the same..

not true, pro-select = old Napa silver filter, which has a nitrile ADBV, while the Napa gold has the silicone ADBV.

this is true, it is of lower quality so being cheaper would make sense.

I would like to know this as well.

Jay (Motorking) has stated in a previous post that the Synthetic filter is internally identical to the Ultra.

For reference, the "Plus" was stated to be internally identical to the Tough Guard, and the "Pro" is based upon the E-core design with 92% efficiency.

And more efficient media, hence its 'gold' label and higher price. Marketing isn't always 'just marketing'.

To the OP, no definite information but a recent thread suggested that was indeed the case.

The FRAM Pro series synthetic filter is a commercial version of the Ultra filter. No sure grip, old school FRAM logo but otherwise exactly the same

Not sure why I would defend NAPA but you are wrong. The Pro Select has a combo valve that leaks like a sieve and a nitrile rubber adbv. The gold does not use this [censored] valve and has a silicone adbv.

Wait a minute. Fram uses a E-core design filter??? I almost bought a case of the orange pro series for a good price. I didn't, bit I would have been so mad. Never will a E-core touch my motors.

MK, I could not have said it better!
The one and only time I ever let a tire store do an OCI on my truck, their jobber oil filter was the Pro Select. Every time upon start up with this filter it made my engine sound like a woodpecker on a streetlight.

901, I had made several replies to the members here about how the PS oil filter effected my engine. They had suggested the use of a PS oil filter to other BITOG members. My quoted explanation to MK proves that he is 100% correct about the PS oil filter.

I saw nothing that says these are eCore designed filters.

Nothing if the cage is designed right, meaning the open windows in the plastic center tube are small and the pleats are relatively tight around the core.

If those things aren't done, the media can get too much stress from the delta-p from the oil flow and possibly cause the media to blow-out through the center core windows.

Exactly. The e core plastic cage is too big if the filter material fails, rips or whatever it will fit thru the much larger e core squares and go into the engine and clog passages.
