Fram PH7317 vs TG7317

At face value, the only difference between these two are 10 pleats of synthetic blend media. 43 for the EG and 53 for the TG. That’s the only difference I see other than paint and mileage claims. Thoughts?

The TG should be slightly more efficient but whan the TG cost over $7 and the Extragaurd is only $4 and has a silicone ADBV now, there's pretty much no reason to go with the Tough Guard over the classic Orange Can.

Yeah the EG is 95% $4.15 with tax and the TG is 99% $7.30 with tax, at least here in RI. Is $3.15 more worth the extra 4% efficiency and 10 more pleats?

I'd say no, in the past I'd have recommended the Ultra, just because it's only a hair more than the Tough Guard and it was very well built, but since first brands cost reduced it, it's hard to even recommend paying over twice as much for it vs just buying the orange can.

The efficiency difference is because the media isn't the same between them. 10 more pleats doesn't make that one more efficient. The extra cost is for better media for more efficiency and holding capacity.

25% of 43 is in bewtween 10 and 11, so 10 more pleats is about 25% more media.

95% vs. 99% efficiency means (1-0.95)/(1-0.99)= 5 times as many "dirt" particles finding their way through the media.

Before the take over the Wix was a higher quality filter.

Baldwin doesn’t have very good efficiency numbers last time I checked….
