Fram PH6010A...Dissected

This oil filter was used in a family members 1984 Honda VF700 Magna. Mileage on this FCI is low at roughly 1200 miles, but total time used was 3 years and 10 months, so very nearly a 4 year FCI. I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the filter, canister was in sturdy condition, and the filter media/ pleats were very strong and in excellent condition. The nitrile ADV was extremely flexible which was my primary concern; leading me to believe more that the flexibility of the ADV is primarily based off the amount of heat cycles it experiences, rather than total time used. My family member that owns the motorcycle has been having deteriorating vision in his older age and isn't as comfortable riding as he used to be, hence the lower mileage.

Looks good for almost a four year oci. Im surprised the cardboard didnt disentegrate over all that time.

^^^ It's specially engineered "cardboard" material. The do look good, nice and flat and look somewhat thicker than I recall seeing on older Frams. If they stay flat and ridged, and adhere well to the pleats then that's all an end cap has to do.

I have said it before and I will say it again, cardboard is for arts and crafts, not oil filters Z06!

I like the construction of this filter. I understand this is for a bike, but i wish the PH for my Jeep had that much media in it. Lol.

I am thinking about running the PH16 on my Jeep in the next month. Assuming my Jeep doesn't tick on start-up of course. Seems to with everything else, but I have had great luck with the TG so we shall see.

I have said for many, years years that frams are fine. If they failed there would be a ton of law suits. Anecdotal stories of failures. But with billions of them out there of course there will be a failure off and on.

Tough Guards are "da bomb" for me on start up, but the orange cans not so much. Maybe you'll have a different result.

I honestly wish the orange can worked better for me, I like Fram's design and the price point of the basic Fram matches my OCI's much better than the TG does.

But I have Motorcrafts and Napa Silver still in the 3 buck something range.

Looks about as good as any filter would after even a short run.
No degradation attributable to the long time in service, even though short miles.
I'm happy that I'm stocked up on Frams, inlcuing some orange cans to replace the Puro Classics and P1s I'll not be buying until it appears that their media tearing problems have been acknowledged and adressed, or at least adressed.

Perfect example that filters can go WAY past one year with no issue.

Mileage means more to a filter than does time.

Just more proof in the puddin' ....

forget the orange can of cardboard but the fram ultra which i am using on one engine so far at around 500 miles gets a thumbs up.
