Fram PH16 cut open 5000KM

Everyone keeps saying the filter did its job. Well we dont know that at all. What micron did the cheap paper element allow to pass through? Cheap filters use cheap filter paper. And we all know the cheap Anti drain valve that doesn't even use a gasket. Just because the filter was immersed in dirty oil and turned dirty looking itself, does not mean it did its job.

And let's not forget this orange beauty queen!

And those were cans Fram put their name on, not a store brand filter.

Looks like that filter did its job!

Something has changed. The orange can of today has better spaces between pleats. Could it use more? Sure. The innards fit together tightly. Look at the last 2 photos. There are indents on the endcaps, everything was held in place.

Agreed. In over 35 years of oil changes and more Frams used than the rest combined I have never had a problem out of one. I have noted some improvements in orange cans lately as well. Fram bashers tend to cherry pick the worst of the worst, none of them are overwhelming in pictures but they work and work well.

A recent PH16 of mine....

Fram orange cans are rated at 95% efficiency @ 20 microns or greater ... per ISO 4548-12 test standards.

ADBVs never "use a gasket" because they ARE the gasket.

Have a look at the Mahle video to see the difference in construction

If you've used Fram forever and never had problems that doesn't mean it's a good filter

Do you own quality items or do you own junk?

Lol
Always a good laugh when I see those ocod cut open. It's better to be humored by it that to feel embarrassed for a company that makes such a pathetic object.

I will state unequivocally that I do not like FRAM Extra Guard filters because I think they need more media and cost too much for what you get. However, if someone used one "forever" and never had problems, what would be your definition of a better filter? One that can be used past forever?

You recommended Purolator made and branded products in another thread.

I guess you've used them issue free so they must be good.

In my opinion Fram builds one good filter and that is the Ultra... Pictures don't lie.
That's the Framboy's idea of a "good looking filter"? ROFL.

That said, if this was a Purolator you'd probably be jumping for joy it at least didn't tear.

But it DID tear....oh, in Framboy world that was "opening damage". That filter looks like the POS it is.

Looks good. Protected the engine as required without holes in the media, end caps in place and secure and can be easily found while under the vehicle because of the nice bright color. A delightful filter. Ed

As Ive said to you before, I use many brands. I am actually using more WIX filters than anything at the moment.

I'm afraid logic escapes you. Correlates well with your geographical location.

No, it's the Puroboys who always claim it was torn from opening the can by a "non-professional" filter cutter.

No, I have not recommended Purolator. Having said that they are fine for older/beater cars, and I would use one in a car like my daughters Cavalier with out issue

I guess because its an old beater there is no reason to take care of it because when it stops running you can just buy her a brand new vehicle..

Apologies. You were right. No Purolator.

However Bosch and many Mann filters are Purolator made.
