I'm kicking myself for not stocking up on OEM Toyota filters when they were $4 each. I know I can go online and get around that price if I buy a case, but I'm not convinced I will keep this truck for another 100k. I've got another week to look around at filters before I have to change oil, so I looked at Walmart, see if I can get "reasonable" cost. I found two versions of the Fram CH10295 filter for my truck, a couple of newer and several older.

Looking inside the box though I'm thinking if I want to use these, I'd want the older made in Korea ones, right?

and not the newer made in China?

The Korea one looks better.

What really gets me though is that the newer one says it's good for 5k. Looking at the next level up Tough Guard Fram did not indicate "good for 10k" on the box (although other Tough Guard filters did say 10k). My application would be for... 10k of course.

Is this just some marketing exercise where Fram is trying to upsell Tough Guard over Extra Guard? [What's next, Macho Guard? Titanium Guard?]

Asking for my opinion, I'd say yes. I like/prefer the design of the endcap better than the newer made China composite endcap cartridge.

Based on several complete Fram cartridge fails posted here including THIS one not a huge a fan of Fram cartidges.

So I'd grab older Korean made cartridge if given the choice. Even over a TG or Ultra cartridge.

I ordered three from here, they have different kinds including the cartridges. Less than $4.

Oh wow, I had not seen that one when I looked the other week. Thanks!

Well, if the Fram Ultras are made in China, the Chinese sure can build one handsome filter

Just to add some detail, the noted M1C-453 cartridge is an M1EP cartridge of Champ design and construction, now under the Fram Filtration banner. Thus explaining the difference in construction/coo from the topic Fram made/labeled cartridge.

Said M1 cartridge filter looks to be a well made, if pricey cartridge.

I always thought the black end caps were for the Ultra only and that the others were just glued. Last I looked, the CH8712 for her car looks like the Korean filter. Perhaps they changed.

I'd definitely be switching brands if they went Chinese on me.
