Fram is a junk filter, I have seen it.

I bought a Fram Tough Guard this current oci. The last Wix I`d bought looked REALLY bad through the center core holes (the filter media),so that kind`ve scared me away from them. The Nissan filters went up like 2 bucks or so. I decided to go with the TG. It looks very well built, media through the holes looks perfect, adbv is huge, and most of all it`s made in the USA. So far my oil pressure is good and high, remains steady, and startups are silent. If I remain pleased with it,it`ll be my main stay oil filter from now on.

They are a cheaper filter and made cheaper, but still meet OEM standards and nobody is going to deny a warranty claim if you use a Fram. There are better filters out there and they cost the same or more.

I think the original poster maybe was trolling.

Very well said.... If you don't like it, don't use it, and move on. Are you going to change anything by sitting there and bash an oil filter.

My fram in the orange "death" box, looks a lot like the factory Mann filter.... even says "Made in Germany". This is for the FRAM P/N CH9911.

my old toyotas, I spent the little extra money on the ToughGard (gray painted) ones....

This thread is a month old. And the topic is 30 years old. Can't we put this one to bed?

Apparently not as we are still talkin' about it. Sometimes we just need to exercise our typing fingers.

I would consider an XG - it would depend on how it priced out locally compared to limited local alternatives; but the construction is solid, and if anything the filter is over-built (not a negative quality).

I'm hoping to have enough Bosch Premium filter soon to tide me over for a couple years worth of OCIs (getting them for a buck more than what Napa Pro Select costs locally).

You might be, and not even know it. I'll bet the good folks at Fram might be making filters for other companies.

Honeywell is (or was) making OE filters for Honda.

I can't imagine the bean counters allowing a completely separate production line for just Honda when their current line "meets" OE specs.

Honeywell is the parent company of Fram. Anything sold under that name or to OEMs is an OCOD in a different color can.

The XG is proof that they are capable of producing a good filter when they choose to. However, as there are millions willing to happily fork out the few bucks for their cheap EG, why would they change a strategy that works for them. They're not going to. As long as people gobble up the OCODs by the millions, Fram will continue happily supplying them.

I use their air filters. Well enough made, snug fit, reasonable price.

With the OCOD there are just too many cheaper alternatives that are also better made.

I currently have a stash of Tokyo Roki's and Purolators, but will probably use the blue subaru OEM in the future.

You know Honeywell (Fram) makes the Subaru filter, right? At least the ones I used to get at my Subaru dealership. The original 'from the factory' filter is not, but the dealership ones are. (at least they were in 2009 when I replaced my Outback).

Wow, how many anti-Fram threads have there been?
It ranks right up there with M1 brings excess iron wear threads, or the popular M1 makes my engine noisy threads.
I have used M1 for years off and on, and I used Fram oil filters for decades before coming here.
M1 never hurt any engine I used it in, nor made it noisy, nor did any Fram oil filter harm any engine.
Can you get better quality for the same bucks as a Fram?
You betcha.
Will a Fram hurt your engine?
Well, outside of freak events which could happen due to a quality control failure with any brand oil filter, nope!

Don't know about "a completely separate production line for just Honda", but I will say they are made to Honda specs, NOT the orange can spec.

Silicone adbv and p type gasket are two of the noticeable differences. That would make them closer to, but not exactly the same as, a Tough Guard. Can't say about the efficiency because the OEM's like Honda generally keep that info proprietary.

The Honda/Honeywell A-02 is ok, just nothing special. For the money there are better choices IMO, in the aftermarket.

Their low-end is...low-end and basic. Their Xtended Guard and Tough Guard are well designed, well-priced, high-end filters. I've always been a fan of their XG/TG lines and use/recommend them when possible and cost effective.

I am also not a Fram fan, but bought the Tough Guard as part of the Autozone MaxLife deal last week. It looks like a very well made filter, especially compared to their standard orange ones.

Nope, sorry, Fram deserves to be hit, unlike M1. Their standard "orange can" filters, while they may function OK most of the time, are horribly, poorly built compared to Champ Labs, NAPA, and Puro filters that are sold for the same price. You can have all the Frams you want -- for the same money, and about one half-second of brain use, I can have a better filter for the same (or less) money. To heck with Fram. . .

p.s. I have actually cut examples of ALL of them open and examined each. Have you?

What's the purpose of keeping thread like this going? By bashing them, are you going to put them out of business? Thread like this might change the mind of how many people on this site 25? 50? 100? Fram doesn't care if you bash them over and over again, a hand full of people on this site won't even come close to putting a dent in their sales. It's just like any other product out there. When one person stop using Fram another new customer will pick up a Fram filter.

It's not a matter of trying to put Fram out of business, it's a matter of informing members of this forum about Fram.
