Hi.

I bought a Fram TRT oil filter which is $1.50 expensive than normal one. The reason is that a sluge cleaning stuff(auto-RX) has pured in the engine which is about 140k. I would like to use a better filter to screen the sludge out. Is the filter better than normal one?

Thanks.

Is this the one that came with telfon (PTFE)additives within? If so, I would return it ASAP for a full refund. For more info on such stuff, search for FTC lawsuit against slick-50 for deceptive advertising.

Yes, the High Mileage TRT filter has the 'miracle gel' inside of it.

Leave it to the marketing department at Fram to sell kee-rap like this.

I thought this was the one that dissolved as the acid built up in the oil (the gel stuff).

Get a cheap ST or PP or whatever filter for Auto-Rx cycles.

No. You're thinking of the DoubleGuard. The TRT filter has some unknown (and FRAM won't tell you) miracle glop in it that's supposed to rejuvenate the additive pack in your oil.

RyanHeo, both the TRT and the DoubleGuard are a complete waste of money. Also, that mystery glop in the TRT *may* have an adverse reaction with the ARx...I would remove it and just use an ordinary inexpensive filter until the ARx treatment is complete.

Im starting to change my mind about FRAM... You guys showed me that the ULTRA is good and the Tough Gaurd is good...

And I think they proved the TRT for HIGH MILAGE TRUCKS is good.....

They measured the TBN and ACID and SOOT in a fleet of trucks after 30K miles.

I do not think it will hurt anything.

I wonder if they make a TRT for Honda..

Im not talking the HIGH MILEAGE one..... The HONDA TRT.... Or are they the same?

This thread isn't about that filter, it's about the TRT filter built for diesel OTR trucks. Two totally different animals.

Here is what it says and it brings up TBN

( Also that does NOT look like the High Milage filter to me )

and it looks like this.

The NEW FRAM® Wearguard® TRT oil filter incorporates the quality of the FRAM Wearguard media with a controlled additization process which impedes (slows) the degradation of oil TBN caused by increased EGR on post 2002 diesel engines. The FRAM Wearguard TRT filters provide fleet managers the opportunity to maintain and/or increase oil change intervals on “acid challenged” post EPA 2002 diesel engines thus helping to reduce fleet maintenance costs.

Technologies:

Cellulose media for efficiency and capacity for particle removal.
CJ4 compatible.
High strength tapping plates for positive filter seating and filter performance.
High strength spiral center tubes that does not allow for media collapse from internal pressure build-up.
Gasket materials that stand up to diesel engine environments
Unique additization basket design
Industry tested additives used by major oil companies:
Over Base Detergent –neutralizes oil acidity
Anti-Oxidants - limits oil oxidation
Application specific formula
Lab and fleet tested
Stable formula for lasting shelf life

Sure sounds like the miracle glop in the HM filters, and I seem to remember that TRT stands for Time Release Technology.

I say this is the same filter as the HM, just meant to remove money from OTR truckers wallets, instead of passenger car owners.

Did you see the test results of TBN after 30K miles compared trucks with 20K or ever 15K ?

I meant here is proof behind it..

Do we really know what in Marvel Mystery oil? but people use it and it does work.

Im starting to change my mind about FRAM.

Yes it Would..... I just put one on my Honda for the hellofit.

Did you guys go into the "UOA - Gasoline Form" and search/look around?

Because guys keep saying it would be interesting to see a used oil analysis with one of these filters used. Maybe someone has already posted up a used oil analysis in the used oil analysis forum ... only way to know is go look and search for it.

Has nothing to do with "hurting anything" or not .., it's about a suggestion on how to go look for what they are interested in.
