Fram Xtraguard filters are superb filters. But I dont like the base plate.

I think it is better meaning what specifically? Different media? Better ADBV material? Differing flange gasket?

I have used the OCOD many times on other cars, no problem.
I have used the silver tg on my saturn, and will be using the OCOD next time. I will be using the extended on my mustang next time.

They look like a good filter but I hate the plastic bypass valve ALL Fram oil filters have.
The Tough Gaurd puts a screen over it, however its plastic and that can become hard and brittle IMO.
Im not a big fan of FRAM even the ULTRA or Extended Guard.
Ill use them when On sale or with my honda when the dealer does oil changes for 12$
b.c we all know the Honda oil filter is a FRAM Tough Guard.

The bypass valve is not just "plastic", it's some kind of super nylon material that can take the heat and punishment. This has been discussed many times, and there's a FRAM video on YouTube that talks about the bypass valve material and the extensive testing FRAM does on the bypass valve in hot oil conditions. Nothing to worry about with the bypass valve.

The bypass valve is not just "plastic", it's some kind of super nylon material that can take the heat and punishment. This has been discussed many times, and there's a FRAM video on YouTube that talks about the bypass valve material and the extensive testing FRAM does on the bypass valve in hot oil conditions. Nothing to worry about with the bypass valve.
Yes Fram says its "glass impregnated nylon" and until someone proves otherwise I am inclined to believe them.
Particularly since on all the gutted Fram filters I've seen on the net I've never seen a broken one, ever.

No, it really isn't. It's made by Fram, true, and looks like a Tough Guard when cut open, but the media in the A02 is only 67% efficient at 20 microns. The Fram Tough Guard is 99% efficient at 20 microns. Honda specs their filters for flow over filtration. They also recommend leaving them on for 2 oil changes, that could theoretically end up being 20,000 miles on the newer OLM equipped cars.
It's been theorized that start up rattle on most newer Hyundais and Kias using aftermarket filters is due to them being too restrictive compared to the higher flow, less efficient OEM filters.

Fram did away with TG's screen over bypass several years back.
While the Fram made Honda oil filter may look similar in construction to the TG, as has been pointed out here many times, there is a big difference in efficiency between the two.
Wouldn't be the least bit concerned with the durability of the nylon-like bypass material.
