I'm Running a 15- dollar a piece Honda s2000 spec FILTECH filter on my 2.5 Nissan. No chances, NO more tiny Nissan filters for me! I might run the Honda service part I have in my stash from my fit (a "properly" built FRAM
but Im North Shore aboudit.
Having run this size filter on a lot of cars, I would run the Pur-o-leaker before the OCoD - only if its made in U.S. and just Deal with the drips and dribbles.

Just because it is 14610 and that is the worst offender for tearing, go with anything else. If you don't feel as comfortable with the lesser fram, go with a Toughguard. I would still go out of my way to run a WIX.

Fram would be my choice. Decades of trouble free use and multiple cut and examined filters have earned my trust.

Interesting I never knew there was a hate for puro classics here. All 3 of my vehicles are running them. The wife's buick running a rebranded promotive?? one I think ( local quick lube stock). I guess I'll start running Napa or Carquest.

So it looks like their QC or standards dropped. If you produce [censored] and then it gets [censored], most folks will not notice (oh, well, it was [censored] to begin with). If you make something very dependable, then you start rolling out with the low-quality run, people get angry. However, what really lit a few torches and brought out the pitchforks was the complete lack of response from Purolator. They took the "Your filter failed, too bad for you. Your problems with our products are not a concern for us..." approach. People with multiple filter failures got the cold shoulder.

The sample size on BITOG is not in the millions so you cannot compare that way. You would have to know in the time frame of the listing of tears how many non-torn filters there were and then do the math.

I'm still waiting for someone to provide some inkling of scientific analysis versus the typical redneck him-hawing that goes on around here. I expect to reach retirement before an actual six sigma analyst feels compelled enough to discredit the small sect of typical actors who bemoan a proven quality product.

Those Purolator "failures" always look a little dubious to me. I would expect to see more localized collapsing of the media where the failure took place and much more of a blow through if oil was flowing through there for thousands of miles.
