Fram Endurance Flashlight Test in canister

Acsent proved with 4548-12 testing that the Boss spec sheet is correct. It’s always been a rock catcher just like the Wix XP. I’m not paying a premium price for OEM efficiency and choked louvers with a cut ADBV.

M+H has destroyed two iconic US filter companies. I used Wix for over 20 years and watched M+H turn them into 💩. Those NC boys were proud craftsman at one time but those days are long gone. I will not support M+H.

From a Boss c&p here….

Louvers look good.

I just called Purolator Tech Service after no response to my email.

The Boss PBL 14615 for my 2018 Outback is 99%@46 microns and 50%@22 microns.
As was foreseen. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I’m good sticking with PG for now.

Who knows how long it will take for First Brands to fix these poorly sealing bypass valves; and then how long the current stock will last in the market. A couple of years? At least PG construction is consistent and their efficiency is solid; though not the best of the best…it seems to be the best for what’s currently available.

Please post your source of the Boss pictures you posted and the 50%@22 microns result. Thanks!

There seems to be a big argument on this forum about which efficiency results are correct for the Purolator Boss. It seems to me that it is most likely that all of the results are correct. They actually do not contradict each other. The fallacy is to believe that any of them state the efficiency of all filters labeled “Purolator Boss” produced at any time in any country (which of course is what we all want to know). Actually, they are probably all the result of destructive testing of different filters on different machines at different times, and possibly in different countries with different regulatory rules and laws and different media generations possibly even from different suppliers.

Another observation: the microscopic photos show that the filter media is composed of randomly oriented fibers. Randomness produces variance. The variance could be statistically controlled, but only if the exact same test is run many times. We hear that these tests are very expensive to run, so probably nobody ran enough of them to statistically control the variance. Hence we only have individual results from individual tests. And guess what? There is variance in the results.

The closed louvers on the Purolator are more worrying - they potentially could decrease oil pressure and starve the engine of oil.

Here’s the Boss and XP media’s. Definitely some light spots/holes. WCW three months ago.

Cartridge made in Korea. Those aren’t the ones I use, made in USA. Looks like the USA wins 2-1 on whip city videos.
I bought the Pentius plxl but that as far as I want to go when there are USA still with doors open. There is always the One and the base model Purolator. Otherwise it’s Baldwin or first brands. Three choices of company excluding Donaldson.
Note the Mopar may be the worst here, the one that you have on the car new.

Wouldn't the pressure relief valve prevent soil starvation? And how can you tell on the photo which louvers are closed, which are plugged up, which have a shadow on them from the other side, and which have slits that we cannot see through due to orientation?

I used to use the Purolator One filter PL14610 for many years. It would be interesting to know it's efficiency as well.
99%@20 on their website, which is the source everyone uses for other filters official efficiency. Suddenly, website is no good. That’s in writing, dated 2024. Not on the phone, not in an email. Where the reliance is on the particular phone answerer.

Call Purolator USA yourself at 1-800-526-4250 for efficiencies. I’m just about done wasting my time and money providing information here. Please feel free to take my spot….ungrateful.
