As for jumping on the train, I've been on board for about two years; ever since I saw first pictures of a dissected Orange Can of Death.

So who has ever used another Fram after finding out how they look inside compared to anything else?

I have used them because they were free, also, i just recently bought their tough guard for my van because they were half price. However, if I was paying full retail price I would not go with Fram because I can usually get something cheaper and better. If the Fram orange can was 2 bucks or under I would not hesitate to buy it, and if the tough guard ones were under 4 bucks, I might buy them, they do have the silicone adbv, glass filter media and a screen over the bypass valve, they're not bad.

I don't think I'll ever buy one again, just because there is too many better alternatives out there for not much more money.

OK, I admit I have used a Tough Guard on my daughters 01 Civic two changes ago with MC5w20. I happened to be at Walmart and didn't feel like driving to AAP to pick up a Puro or derivative. Quite frankly, in a Honda I don't think even using the Orange can for 3-5K OCI would hurt anything. That seems especially true when Honda recommends changing the filter every other time. But as has been mentioned, the Fram TG is better made, and I'm more confident with it.

However, if I can get a AAP or PURO for the same or less money that would be my normal pick. I have a stash of AAP and Pure Ones now, so I don't have to think about that.

What I find somewhat difficult to accept is the current AAP deal with Valvoline SynPower 5qts. and a TG. Think I'd have to go with a Pure One (or equivalent) for an extended synthetic OCI and save the TG for a shorter one. JMHO.

Note to addyguy: The Quaker State oil filters that Canadian Tire sells are made by FRAM and they are not ToughGuards.

Well, I do have to admit my truck survived years of running Frams before I go the guts to try an ST and started cutting filters open and looking inside. But why buy a Fram if Walmart had an ST in your number?

Note, Canadian Quaker State filters may not be the same as the US ones.

The Quaker State filters at Canadian Tire are indeed made by Purolator. They used to be made by fram when the filters were cans were green.
I use fram filters without any hesitation because they are only $3.50 at Walmart and right now at Canadian Tire if you buy a jug of castrol gtx you get a fram filter free. Can't beat free. I have used all types of filters over the years and have used many frams with no issues what so ever. I bought a 95 Saab 900 converible last year with the V6. I am going to use nothing but conventional oil that is on sale and fram filters. I am sure that I will still have the car 3 years from now with no issues. Synthetic oil in Canada is expensive and not worth it to me. They want $41.00 for 4.4 litres of mobil 1. Sorry, not worth it. I bought 5 litres of Valvoline conventional for $10.97. I am sure that it will protect my car just fine.

Here in America, we have a wide choice of other filters at the same or lower price than Fram that look better inside. Since I have alternatives, I can imagine buying a fram.

What I have never seen is any real proof the crummy Frams, that I won't touch, shorten the life of a car.

It is kind of funny. All the dog forums are full of people agonizing about the ingredients in dog chow. They insist certain ingredients are ''better'' than others. I keep pointing out that the service dog schools, with far more resources to choose a dog chow, all feed common brands with what everybody insists have ''bad'' ingredients.

Too bad we don't have anybody from some large, professionally managed car program to let us know their experience.
