We just changed the oil in my son's 2008 Chevy HHR. The oil filter said Fram, Made in China.... he had a quickie change at Walmart previously. A Fram cartridge filter made in China... More to dislike about Fram.

Replaced the Wal Mart conventional with Pennz. Platinum and a Pure 1 filter.

Nope, The Delco / Hengst are made in USA and the Pure 1's are also made here. The Wix are from Korea. In have at least 6 USA made Delco's, 3 Pure 1's and a Purolator classic, all made in USA. I have found some Delco's made in Romania but I will not buy those.

^^^^ Afaik, Purolator was made aware of the issue by owners using these cartridge filters and now uses an added an integral inner centertube cage to address the issue. The correspondence between owners and Purolator was posted here previously.

But I agree with the above poster that said cartridge and canister filters are two different animals. Based on the postings here, seema that some of the Fram cartridges are equal to other aftermarket and oem cartridges.

Previous Fram cartridge filter for E430 was made in USA, the quality was not as good as Mann, Hengst, Mahle ... but wasn't much lower.

The newer Fram cartridge filter is made in China and the quality is lower than before and much lower than Germany filters. The problem with Fram cartridge filter is the high price, why should I pay similar price for a lesser quality made in China filter ?

After reading your post on the O'R Mobil Super/Microgard (Fram) promo, I was under the impression you thought that Fram cartridge filters were ok. Perhaps I misinterpreted what you said. Were the O'R MicroGard made in China?

Many of the Fram cartridge filters posted here have looked respectable for the cost.

I have been able to purchase the OEM cartridges which hold up the best IMO for less than Fram or Wix and they are made here. On sale, the USA made pure 1's are cheaper yet.

I bought 2 Microguards cartridge filters with Mobil Super deal, 1 made in USA and 1 made in Korea. The newer filters are made in China were left on the shelf.

I opened and compared the 3 filters, made in USA has the best quality construction and filter media, made in Korea is a little lower and the worse is made in China.

Made in China Microguards cartridge filter is the same as Fram cartridge filter I saw in Pep Boys when I bought the M1 with M1 filter 2-3 weeks before.

I bought and used 1 made in USA Fram cartridge filter before. The filter looks okay in the box but the media is a little thinner and it didn't fit as well on the filter holder as made in German made filters, Hengst or Bosch ...

The made in USA Microguards cartridge filter is not as good as top of the line fleece filters such as Mann, Mahle ... but very close to the paper filter of Hengst, Mahle or Bosch.
