It is with a touch of sadness that I give you a 90s Fram PH3980. Produced at the storied Stratford Ontario Plant which closed in 2012

Date Code F3178A (1993?)

This is a much heavier filter than the current PH3980. Steel is thicker, media feels heavier.

Run for approx 12,000Km in an 04 Chevy Venture 3400

They had metal endcaps in the ’80s, I had an ancient PH8A I cut open a couple years ago.
I wonder why that PH8 (not PH8A) filter from the 60s had cardboard endcaps, I'm pretty sure it was from the 60s based on the model years written on the box and the way the address is written on the box it says "Fram Corporation, Providence 16, R.I." which was how their address appears in ads in Magazines on Google Books up through 1962 but after that it's just seems to be "Fram Corporation, Providence, R.I."

The year digit in the date code is "3". So it could be 1963, 1973, 1983... etc.
